Uninstalled and reinstalled mistlib and mistserver this morning. Everything seemed to install with no problems. Started MistController and added a stream to it "THE_CROODS.flv".
Used MistFLV2DTSC then MistDTSCFix and add stream using the name "thecroods" . New stream shows "available".
I tested the original file I used,  "THE_CROODS.flv" on my computer, it plays fine.

When I  try to view the stream in the embed section of MistController the file continually buffers.
When I try to access it on the local network through a browser it will not play.

Your input can't be opened:

VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http:192.168.1.113:8080/thecroods.flv'.

I installed and added a updated codec pack.

Installed and tried Chrome/Firefox/Explorer. None will play it.

Not sure if the buffing and the not playing are connected?

Not sure how to solve this.

Hello,

If you look at the stream status, you'll see it listed as:
Stream offline: Not found: /home/midgetcoach/THE_CROODS.dtsc
Looks like the filename isn't correct? Keep in mind it's case sensitive.

Jaron Viëtor

No thats not it. I deleted the stream and dtsc file.  I changed the stream name to "thecroods.flv" then ran dtsc and fix again and made a new file called "thecroods.dtsc", then re added it as a new stream. Still the same problem.

Here is the Strobe Media Playback info from the "embed" preview.

Build 1.5.199M for Flash Player 10.1
Flash Player version: WIN 12,0,0,44
Frame rate: 0.00 fps Dropped frames: 0
Buffer length / time: 0.00 s / 0.50 s
Memory usage: 11.11 MB

Stream state: playing

This just keeps buffing. Same type of thing from trying to access it from a browser in the local network.
What else could cause this???

Could you request the file http://server-address:8080/info_thecroods.js from the server, and post the contents here?
The "info_[streamname].js" file contains all relevant information about a stream, and would show what the problem is.

OK Here is what we get

mistvideo['thecroods'] = {"height":480,"meta":{"is_fixed":1,"moreheader":0,"tracks":{"audio_MP3_2ch_44100hz_2":{"bps":15998,"channels":2,"codec":"MP3","firstms":0,"init":"","lastms":5917100,"rate":44100,"size":16,"trackid":2,"type":"audio"},"video_H263_720x480_15fps_1":{"bps":124775,"codec":"H263","firstms":0,"fpks":15000,"height":480,"init":"","lastms":5917600,"trackid":1,"type":"video","width":720}},"vod":1},"source":[{"priority":7,"relurl":"/dynamic/thecroods/manifest.f4m","simul_tracks":2,"total_matches":2,"type":"flash/11","url":"http://192.168.1.113:8080/dynamic/thecroods/manifest.f4m"},{"priority":6,"relurl":"/play/thecroods","simul_tracks":2,"total_matches":2,"type":"flash/10","url":"rtmp://192.168.1.113:1935/play/thecroods"},{"priority":5,"relurl":"/thecroods.flv","simul_tracks":2,"total_matches":2,"type":"flash/7","url":"http://192.168.1.113:8080/thecroods.flv"},{"priority":8,"relurl":"/thecroods.mp3","simul_tracks":1,"total_matches":1,"type":"mp3","url":"http://192.168.1.113:8080/thecroods.mp3"}],"type":"vod","width":720};

Your stream looks fine. However, the problem may be that you're using H263 instead of H264.
Though we do support both (and a few others as well), the H263 code isn't tested as much as the H264 code.

When I'm back in the office, I'll ask the testing team to verify H263 is still working.
Meanwhile I'd advice to re-encode to H264 (preferably combined with AAC audio instead of MP3 to enable most protocol combinations - but that is optional).
This will result in a better quality/bandwidth trade off, as well.

Jaron

Downloaded and tried different FLV converters today and still have the same problem.
Found the "stream tester" and got this:

HTTP Dynamic:
The F4m document contains errors
URL missing from Media Tag

Smooth(mac/Linix)
Debug: Setting uri on ActiveMediaPlugin
Error: System.NullReferenceException,[Arg_NullReferenceException]

Not sure what this is telling me???

Hello,

To make sure your source file isn't the problem, please try this known working test file:

If that file plays normally, the problem is your source file.
If that file doesn't play either, the problem is the server setup.

Jaron

Yes, I can play the "gear1.dtsc" file. So must be my media?
I have four encoders Nero12, VLC, Xilisoft, and AVS Video.
I have tried each with no success. Could it be my MistFLV2DTSC converter or is it bad media file right from the re encode to FLV ?
Do you have the FLV of "gear1" that I can convert and try?

Most likely wrong encoding parameters - the actual encoder used shouldn't matter (not much, anyway).

If you want to make sure it's not the converter, here's the FLV file that was used to create gear1: http://dtsc.mistserver.com/gear1.flv

Do your encoders have settings? If so, make sure to select "H264" "Baseline profile" and "Level 3.0" for the video and "AAC" (or "AAC-LC", if you have that option) for the audio. A framerate of 15-45 FPS is recommended, but other framerate settings should work too.
The baseline profile and level 3.0 settings aren't required for files to work in most players (ie: flash-based and silverlight-based players will work without those settings in most cases), but most Apple devices will refuse to play files with different settings. The bitrate setting doesn't really matter in terms of playback compatibility, but higher bitrates will give a higher quality, of course.

Jaron, Thanks you for your time and help with this. After using the test files I now found that the problem is with the encoding of the video files I am using.
I do think that the test files you posted should be posted where ours may easily find them for future use.
My next step will be to load ffmpeg on to one of my windows 7 machines and use it to encode a video to FLV.

No problem!

I was thinking the same thing, so I've been setting up a page for it (ugly for now, but it gets the point across, I think):
Once finished, we'll provide several sample files in various formats to test with, and I'll make sure a link appears somewhere logical on the main website.

Jaron
