Hi there MIST users,

Love the application, but recently continue to get a “stalled” MIST upon my attempts to import to TntMPD.

Computer: MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo, Mavericks (10.9.2)
MIST Version: 3.2
TntMPD for Mac: 3.0 r 21

Upon MIST startup I double check the connection to my email account (gmail) as well as reconnect to my TntMPD database.  I then begin the Import process, after which, about 3 minutes in the application “stalls” or “freezes” never to resolve itself (even after hours of waiting). I have to Force Quit the application.  I cannot find a log for MIST, however, I kept a Terminal window open while this occurred with the following copy/paste from that Terminal window:

Last login: Wed May  7 11:18:12 on console
matts-macbook-pro-2:~ Matt$ /Applications/MIST.app/Contents/MacOS/MIST
WARNING:Default values should start and end with a double quote, the single quote is considered as part of the default value '+P-E' (column NewsletterMediaPref, table Contact).
It could result in a data truncation error at runtime, because the column maxsize is 4

Thanks!

Hello Matt,

  Glad you're enjoying MIST!

It sure sounds like you've found a bug!  And those pesky NullPointerExceptions usually don't show up in the logs, either, so thanks for passing along the terminal output.  Those NPEs usually cause MIST to stop in its tracks - so it's not really doing anything, but it doesn't know what to do next, either.  Hence it appears to be "frozen".

My guess is that there's something unusual about a particular email you've received or sent such that MIST can't handle it properly.  That should be a fixable problem, but I'm not sure where to start looking.

It sounds like you're relatively techie; would you mind helping me track down the particular problem?  I'll need to snag my wife's Macbook in order to remember the specifics, but I'd need you to do something like opening up the MIST.app folder, then editing conf > log4j.properties and modifying app.level to be ALL (instead of ERROR).  Then you'd run MIST and send me the resulting log (no need to email the whole list with that.)  That should tell me what particular message we're getting stuck on and maybe even what is causing the problem.  If I can't determine the particular problem from the log, I can at least ask more about the message you're having trouble with and we should be able to then create a fix (or at least work around that message as a short-term solution.)

What do you think?  Is that enough info for you, or will more detail be needed?  (That's fine if so; I just figured I'd try this method first =))

Thanks again for reporting the bug!

Tom
