One day in such a training session I had a room full of people from various backgrounds and was silently stressing over how to best cover Agile estimation. Then, somehow, two previously unacquainted neurons connected for the first time and in a flash I had the solution.
In the game you will represent the Customer/Product Owner when the team has questions about the job. The team has to come up with an estimate to paint the room. Distribute Planning Poker cards to everyone. Keep the number of participants to the size of a scrum team. Everyone else can just watch and still get the full benefit.
Now that the team has seen the Anchor Wall and produced a converged estimate for a simple wall, you ask the team to place a story point estimate on painting the ceiling. Again, it must be relative to the Anchor Wall of 5 Story Points.
I like to lay my paint a little on the thicker side so that two coats ends up being enough, but not so thick that it drips or leaves weird texture or brush marks. If you notice any drips anywhere, just brush them out.
This is the best part because you can really start to see your room come together! Pour a good amount of paint into your pan. I fill that bottom little pooling area, but leave space to roll out on the angled part.
Personally, I opt for matte finish on my paint because our walls have a lot of texture and the more matte the finish, the less obvious the texture is. If you use high gloss, every imperfection will be highlighted.
Benjamin Moore is my hands down favorite. I also love Shermin Williams and recently got Behr for our basement since it was cheaper and we have a lot of space to cover down there. My two favorite whites are Benjamin Moore White Dove which is what I used all over the first floor and our bedroom and Behr Swiss Coffee which we used in the basement.
High gloss paint can be notoriously challenging to work with when painting a room. Its high sheen and reflective properties can accentuate imperfections and flaws, such as bumps, dents, or uneven textures. Our painters went above and beyond with the preparation work, including proper sanding, filling, and priming, before even getting near the paint sprayer. They did everything they should, including buffing between coats, and when they peeled off the tape and plastic to the masterpiece below, I was in love.
As heartbroken as I was, our painters were extremely committed to problem-solving and making it right on their own dollars. At this point, they wanted to take a step back and reevaluate the situation before moving forward, so we decided to make the most of it and move in anyways.
You can totally see the painting imperfections in this picture, but for me, it was important to move forward and just enjoy the room as much as possible amidst the discouraging renovation blunder. During this time, the painters came up with a few explanations as to what possibly went wrong.
Kudos to your contractor/painter. It
Is so good to see that somewhere out there are professionals that stand by their work! As in all of life there are ups and downs. It is how one responds that counts. Good for them. Also, good for you and your family for seeing the whole picture not just the problem.
The only high gloss paint I have used is by Benjamin Moore (Advance) and with good results. I did have a similar experience as you did with high gloss paint with drips, etc. I do know that you DO have to pay attention to humidity (as it affects dry times) and with using a sprayer you have to use a particular product to thin the paint correctly to achieve correct coverage and not affect the gloss. Too much thinning results in drips and the color sheen flashes and goes foggy so that you have a mixture of high, medium and low reflective color. You need to have them do a sample before spraying again. Alternatively, You could paint in a low sheen and finish with them spraying a high gloss lacquer. That would provide the best result. Best of luck.
I believe Flat paint is soooo much nicet (personal opinion). Gloss on large areas like this always remind me of lego shiny plastic. So if all goes wrong this time in my opinion flat will be beautiful. But crossing my fingers your wish if shiny perfection comes true. ? I love your style and often surprised at incredible results you achieve. That is why I am not a designer.
Please note that the colors you see on your monitor may vary slightly from the actual paint colors. For best results, write down the name or number of your color, bring it to your local Glidden retailer, and look for the actual color chip on the Glidden color display.
Our painted mural only took us about 5 hours of real working time to complete, but it was spread across 2.5 days since there was a lot of time spent letting parts dry before moving on to the next sections. But it was well worth it because it was exactly what the wall needed and the colors are so cheerful.
When we started talking about painting a mural on its wall, the photo below was the first thing that came to mind. Long before we had moved (back in 2019) we snapped this shot of an accent wall at a Richmond restaurant called Organic Krush. We learned that the extremely talented Richmond artist who did the mural is Eli McMullen who we then got to connect with & got his blessing to share this project.
We loved the colors. We loved that felt both energetic and relaxed at the same time. We also loved that it would be easy to paint ourselves. Long story short: we all loved it, including our daughter.
To pick our paint colors, Sherry broke out a few paint decks and we considered a variety of swatch combinations until we had final approval from our lead designer (aka: our 10-year-old). We ended up choosing lots of colors that were on the same swatch card (just moving up or down to go darker or lighter) which is always a pretty no-brainer way to be sure things will look good together. We stayed close to the original colors, but this design would work with a totally different palette too.
This process of adding the beachy elements was not too dissimilar from how we painted the original stripes. This time, instead of planning in Photoshop, Sherry and our daughter used Instagram Stories to very roughly doodle over a photo of the striped mural (just using the paint brush tool). This gave them a rough idea of what types of shapes they might want to add.
well chatty handan, i read it all ha ha and i must say you did a good job with it, i was married to a painter for twenty some years and although he passed away in 1996 as i read i could still hear the words from his mouth matching your written words, he would have hired you in a new york minute xx
Hi Handan hope you all had a nice Christmas, Happy New year to you guys! Lots of good info here that you put out! I have learned a few hard lessons along the way with painting and choosing the right color thats for sure. I wish I had this info you put out years ago, LOL.
I am so glad you liked it, Michelle! ? I know this was a pretty long one, but I wanted to include everything in one post instead of scattering them into several small posts.
Oh that grid and the paint bucket are the best things ever as they make the whole painting process go faster. ?
I liked that you said that one thing to consider when you are in need of a new painting in your home is to compare the price of paint in order to find one that is within your budget. I have been thinking about painting my home again but I have been worried about the cost. I will be sure to consider comparing the pricing of different brands in order to find one that I can afford.
3. Multiply both sides of the equation by the reciprocal of the coefficient in front of the x, and cancel. This will give you the number of hours it takes for the two painters working together to paint one room.
It is not every day that you can just dip your paintbrush and splatter paint onto a canvas and inevitably against a wall, especially with the option to do it in a glow in the dark neon light room. If our kids were to do it in our homes, we would be very upset.
Splatter painting is a unique experience that you are certainly not going to forget. From paint going on the canvas and everywhere else, this will be a great time to share with whomever you love to spend time with! We are also excited to offer an optional glow in the dark splatter room experience.
Painting ceiling first, walls next and trim last. While you are not a professional, you still want to get the best paint finish you can. A clear sign of a bad paint job done by a homeowner is drip marks and splatters.

Painting (or repainting) a room can be tedious work, so today I am sharing my best tips to quickly paint a room. You don't want to miss this. I have discovered how to paint a room fast!
First, let me give you a little tour of a few things that needed to be touched up in our back entryway. Our baseboards are gross. Especially in this corner by the door. I wipe and scrub but they just are at the point where they need to be repainted.
We (aka my son) cleaned it off as best we could, but it still left a large discolored area on the wall that needed to be painted over. So this past weekend I decided to finally tackle painting this room and it looks so much better!!
