MSC/May Day Meeting Notes
4/14/10
Jay offered to facilitate the meeting, and proposed our agenda for the
meeting: work to develop and define the message we want to present for
May Day, and then assign tasks, organizing everyone around defined
actions.
To help define the message, he asked everybody to answer the
following:
a. What two ideals or purposes do each of you envision for this May
Day event? What do you want to accomplish with this event?
Answers included: Celebration & protest, bringing people
together, empowerment
b. What are we protesting??
Workers in crisis
Theme: May Day! May Day! Workers in Crisis! The Boat’s going down!
Preparation:
1. The march

1. The March
The plan is to organize the march between noon and 1:00pm.
Route: up Higgens to the XXs, stage the takeover at the XXs in front
of the Farmers Market, workers march triumphantly back down Higgens
once they have taken ownership of the Boat. Pass through Caras Park
and River Farmers Market for renaming celebration, and lead the way to
the Workers’ Picnic in Kiwanis Park.

Takeover occurs at the XXs
Smurfitt & Whitecollars pull the boat back to Caras Park
At Caras, we have a second spectacle to celebrate the renaming of the
Boat
Continue march to Kiwanis and the workers celebration.
PARTY!
Nick is writing the script for the takeover spectacle.
Everyone can hand out leaflets/flyers inviting people to the park
afterwards, explaining the boat, etc.

Material gathering Thursday and Friday, Max and Murphy will help

Drinks: Water - alcohol is allowed, BYO, but no sales of alcohol

MAC, NRRT, IWW, SSEEJ, CLC, USW (Roy Houseman?)
6. Field Day Games: “Challenge a Socialist!”
Kickball (Katie has kickballs we can use)
Volleyball
Horseshoes
Free market/Swap meet
7. Message
Press Release (Katie will start it and send it to Jay for first edit
and distribution for to group for suggestions.
All literature (flyers, press release, etc) should be kept in the
voice of workers, communiqués form workers
Thankyoumissoula.com can serve as the event website, and everything
can be posted there and and direct people there.
