Hi all!

First of all, an update on us, we are now in Costa Rica for a year
studying at ILE! We plan on being in Honduras in 2012!

We have a question about bringing seeds for a garden. Anybody know if
this is possible? We have been told seeds for vegetables are hard to
come by. Is this true? Can we bring packaged seeds from the US? And
if yes, any suggestions on what to bring?

Thanks so much!

I have heard that you cannot bring seeds in, but I also know people who have not had any problems. If it was me, I would bring in pre-packaged seeds and see what happens. I think they might have a problem with things not in a package. Just a thought...

Yes, you can bring seeds. However, if you are bringing any significant quantity of seeds, they must be declared with SENASA. How much are you planning on bringing?

I don't know, enough for our family to plant a garden for our term (2
years)...so not enough to plant a farm or anything:)

Small quantities are allowed, but do spread them through out your luggage.  Don't keep them all in one place.  The x-ray will surely pick it up and they will confiscate the seed.

Yes, you can bring seeds in. it is best if you get a certificate from the department of agriculture. they can verify that the seeds are good. you may need to pay a small when you get here. i have seeds mailed to me twice a year with no problems. if you would like more info on the agri cert please let me know.

be blessed,

Hello,
Someone brought packets of flower seeds a month or so ago and they took them away from him.  We have brought seeds over ourselves with no problem.  I guess it depends who is checking.
