Hi!
Was wondering if anyone knew if it is ok to go to Nicaragua for 72 hours
to meet the requirements for 90 day visa renewal? New missionaries are
coming down and they were wondering about that.
Thanks so much for any help.

Just like anything, it all depends on the person behind the window.  Most people I have talked to say it works, but others have not been so lucky.  There is always the option of paying someone off, though highly unethical and not very befitting an ambassador of God's Kingdom.  How long are your new missionaries going to be working in Honduras?

Hi Teri,

My understanding is that Honduras allowed going to neighboring
countries to renew visas for only about 3 weeks last year, but then changed
the rule back again. We now have to go to one of the non-partnership
countries like Belize, or Costa Rica - as before.
If anyone has updated information on this, I'd be glad to hear it.

Thanks,
~ Barry

You are correct, Barry.  However, we had some missionaries just go to El Salvador.  They were told the same thing when they got there the one afternoon.  They went back in the morning and everything was fine.  They went into El Salvador, and returned a few days later with another 90 days.

The decision to allow going to a neighboring country actually depends on all of the countries related to the Union.  It is my understanding from the digging I did at immigration that because the decision was not unanimous by all 4 countries, they could not allow it.

The most sure step is to, like Barry said, go to one of the countries outside of the Central American Union.

I too know of someone who went to Nicaragua before Christmas last year, and was given a 90 visa upon his return – but one can’t count on that happening every time . . .

Absolutely not. That's why your safest bet is to plan to go outside the CA-4. We just had a family leave yesterday who we advised the same way.

All this Jim and Terry to say, yes go outside the CA-4 to avoid issues.

Why not simply go to Immigrations – and pay the $20 to get the stamp for another 30 days .  It's much easier & cheaper!
