Hi all,
I think Bitner has been talking this up, but I’m putting on a
ski race on the North Shore near Lutsen on March 8. I'm a little tight on volunteers, and while things are coming together, I had one group that was going to host an aid station drop out. Soooo, I'm brainstorming different groups to ask to step in, but I think this group has the exact vibe I'm going for, and wondering if anyone would be up for aid station hosting.
The overall deal is it's a 100k race, and the aid station I'm looking to get covered is hit twice (41 & 66km for the 100k, 9 and 29k for the 50k). There's about a 100 skiers between those two races. This particular aid station has drop bags. We'll provide basic food supplies and water, but if the host could bring a table, tent (optional but might be nice), a way to heat water (I'm gathering up some backups here, but like even a camping cooking stove and pot could work). This particular spot is "open" from about 8:15-3:00, so ideally we'd have enough people to swap in and out and take some breaks. I think we'd really only need like 2-3 people on a given shift. In like a dream scenario, I think this would be a very great location for something in the genre of quesadillas or pancakes but that would be some extra magic.
I'll attach a pdf of some idea of responsibilities (this may be outdated, some things have shifted this last week, but it'll give you the general idea) and we could talk through more specifics.
PERKS:
-Bitner is the aid station leader and you could see him so much!!
-Soup and foods and hats available for volunteers
-Post-race drink and socialization at a local spot
-Generally being up north on an awesome March day! The weather app tells me it's going to be 22 degrees that day.
Thank you, thank you for considering. I know schedules and lodging may be barriers, so thank you for even thinking about it.
