Hey Brilliant Peoples,

I printed out (what I think is) all of the dissectors needed from here on out.... They're all on our "music stand".   If you can, just double-check me in case I missed one.
Also, I haven't read any anatomy, so I'll be useless in Lab.  Plus.. what i've noticed is that i pretty much don't get anything out of lab if there is more than 3 people around the body... so I think i'll be skipping most lab sessions.
If you guys also feel like you aren't getting much out of lab either, and want to skip out... I have absolutely no problem going in and doing my fair share of dissecting...

What I think is the case is that... some people really enjoy dissecting, and some people don't as much.  And the less people that are around the body at a given time, the more learning goes on for the people who are around the body.

That said, I will be going in on my own time when there are fewer people in the lab -- that way i know what's going on, and won't bring down the team come game time ;-)

Just let me know what's okay with you guys.

blissfully yours,

Anoop

Hey guys... Anoop, you make lots of good points and I'm really sorry that you don't feel like you don't get much out of lab because we miss you! I understand it's hard if you're not actually doing the dissecting or don't feel prepared for lab (totttttally understand) and I really appreciate you printing out all the dissectors. Not to sound like the bad guy or anything, but the head and neck dissections are really, really, really, REALLY hard... They are very meticulous and take more than the alloted lab time... Julia, Andy and I were there til 4 and still didn't identify all the face/parotid stuff- we were just trying to separate and dig stuff out. With that being said, since there's SO much information (making it impossible to me amply prepared for any of the labs in my opinion), the weather is getting nicer, and there's lots of outside studying to be done by all, I'd really appreciate it if everyone contributed. I don't want to speak on anyone else's behalf, and correct me if I'm off target, but speaking from Julia and Andy's experience today, I think maybe we should rotate or something to that extent? Some people may like coming in every lab because they enjoy dissecting, but I don't think there's anyone in our group that wants to do all the revealing of the tiny nerves, arteries, veins, etc. just to have the rest of the group show up a week before lab to practice identifying. I also know people have legit private things they have to do which don't need to be shared with the group (doctors appts, funerals, etc) and I know lab is not mandatory, but would people be up for having a rotating schedule so that there's 1-2 people that are definitely there in lab so the dissection that day gets done? There's 6 labs after today so it actually works out perfectly if one person promises to be there one time, or have 2 people there promise to be there 2 times. Sorry to be the bearer of possible annoyingness and I know we bragged earlier in the year about having a fun, relaxed group, but I just want us to fairly share the burden of being stuck in a basement doing frustrating dissections when it's 70 degrees outside and there's lots of things to be doing other than finding nerve branches. Thoughts?

Hey all,

That sounds fair Jess, and I realize that I am a prominent member of
the "less than perfect attendance" group, so I apologize for that. I
cannot promise my attendance tomorrow, but I will go ahead and
guarantee to be there on Friday morning.

I think that's totally understandable.  Ilike, i said... i'd be glad to do my fair share of dissecting...  I'm leaving Boston this Thursday -- but I can definitely be there for the next lab after that... the one on wednesday on the oral cavity.  and i can be there next thursday too if need be...

I can make tomorrow and Friday. And also think rotating is a fantastic
idea, especially for an area this localized.

It might also be a good idea to send an update to the group after each
lab re: achieved objectives so we can better pace ourselves.

Hi party people,

Well said, Jess. I know I have missed like 40 labs lately so I
apologize. I will definitely be there tomorrow morning becuase I am not
going to be at school on Friday. Updates are a fab idea, we'll make
sure to do that tomorrow.

btw, I didn't mean to say I go to every lab and shame on you folks because I most definitely do NOT so i'm sorry about that too but just thought we should have a system of some sort:

Sooooo so far it looks like (I actually think it's only 5 real labs):
4/17- Caroline/Julia/Jess
4/18- Dave
4/23- Anoop
4/24- some weird small group thing?
5/2-
5/8-

Folks,

Andy, Dave and I made some headway on the remaining part of the
anterior face and the beginning of the orbital section. I think I
managed to isolate the middle meningeal artery and possibly the chorda
tympani but we'll have to confirm that with an instructor.

Dave and Andy did an awesome job with the orbit. We'll doing pretty
well compared to other groups, just so y'all know.

Also, I'll be coming in for the Wednesday lab; not sure about Thursday.

Hey,

I'll probably be stopping by sometime this weekend, say Saturday or
Sunday morning, and won't be in today. I'll see where you guys left off
and continue from there (or contact Anoop). Hope your weekends were all
fantastic--
