In accordance with the instructions given by :GeoGebra_Installation, I tried installing geogebra by first using sudo apt-add-repository -u 'deb stable main', and then sudo apt install geogebra-classic, but when I run the last command, I get the error message "Unable to locate package geogebra-classic". Any tips?

Not all Manjaro editions have the needed software installed by default, to install software from this application you need to install web-installer-url-handler package, that is available in Manjaro repositories.

You are advised to use the installer only if you are on Stable branch, as it might not work on others.

pamac install web-installer-url-handler

A package is a file that describes how and where software is installed in your OS. Manjaro is not responsible for the contents or quality of the installed software, only install software if you trust it.

Native packages, as the name suggests, are packages that are specifically built for Manjaro. They are officially supported and usually depend on other packages in the system to function properly.

Portable 3rd-party-packages work across distributions unlike traditional native packages.

Flatpaks are self-contained packages with inbuilt dependencies and do not depend on the system to run.

Snaps are self-contained containers that could have dependencies. It's more or less the same as running Ubuntu with a Manjaro Kernel.

Appimages are portable single file package that runs on usespace without the need for being installed.

You should use the default package manager user interface Pamac (Add/Remove Software). It does support other package formats, you might need to install libpamac-flatpak-plugin or libpamac-snap-plugin for compatibility with additional formats and then activate them under Pamac settings. There is also pamac-cli and pacman which support native packages.

Other options to manage third-party packages: For Snaps you can install snapd and for Flatpaks you can install flatpak there is also manjaro-cli that supports all package formats.

Examples:
pamac install packageName
pacman -S packageName
snap install packageName
flatpak install packageName
manjaro install -n packageName

Not sure what to use? use Pamac or pamac-cli as it comes by default on any edition. You can also run this installer locally by installing software-center-web-jak.

Definitively, I prefer GeoGebra 5. However, some graphics tasks require the use of the 6 version. Now, I use the official Linux portable version. Nevertheless, I would prefer to install the package to get auto-updating.

As a high school geometry/calculus teacher, I use Geogebra a lot. But OS 10.8.2 has somehow blocked Java and every time I try to install Geogebra I get a little black Terminal icon. I have to use my wife's PC to access my old lesson plans & diagrams.

Apple has indeed blocked Java in its Update due to what Apple refers to as the sever security concerns that running Java these days leaves open. That said, you can Google Java Installation and go to a Java download site to reinstall an unblocked version of Java on your Mac.

GeoGebra-Windows-Installer-4-0-32-0.exe /S works fine for silent install but places the shortcuts in the root of All Programs menu. Uninstall with commandline "C:\Program Files\GeoGebra\uninstaller.exe" /S doesn't seem to work.

This is a module for people interested in the Geogebra geometry program available from This is an Open Source geometry program written in Java which is written to be cross-platform compatible (although the install script varies per platform).

the .deb and .rpm installers will automatically add the official GeoGebra repository to the package management system on the workstation. This will enable automatic update of GeoGebra every time a new version is released. If you want to include GeoGebra in your custom Linux distribution with GeoGebra included, the best way is to add the official GeoGebra repository ( ) to your package management system. The GPG key of the repository is at https:// - the name of the package is geogebra-classic.
Installing GeoGebra directly from the command line: for Ubuntu, these two commands eliminate the need for downloading .deb files:

There are a lot of good open source programs out there, but not many of them have direct application to a mathematics classroom the way Geogebra does. Geogebra is a software package for creating and manipulating geometric objects. It also allows for graphing of funcitons and manipulating the functions in all sorts of interesting ways. It runs on the Java framework, which means if you have Java installed on your computer, you can run Geogebra, which makes it any Java enabled operating system. This means the very same program will run on Windows, Mac, Linux or Solaris, although the installer is different for each operating system.

If you are planning on using the program with your students, it is nice to know that they can install the program for free, and that it is very likely to work on their computer. The only caveat is that you need to make sure the students have the right version of Java installed if they have any problems as this can sometimes be an issue.

It seems that there are many users who have difficulty uninstalling programs like GeoGebra from their systems. Some experience issues during uninstallation, whereas other encounter problems after the program is removed.

If you don't have Synaptic Package Manager installed, get it from the Software Channel.
Click on Search and just enter 'education' - and you will see a plethora of all Educational packages available - was there a specific age range you were looking at or everthing including the kitchen sink? If you click on an application in the top window on the right of synaptic a description of the application appears in the window below and sometimes there is a link to the project page for you to get more information.

I've just done a search for education-tertiary and it came back with nothing (Synaptic). May need to look elsewhere, or it could be because I installed KDE. I will also look in 'Software'. Sadly for the time being take a look here:

On the project website you can download packages in DEB or RPM format. There you will also find a portable version that can be started directly from a USB stick. To install the DEB for Debian or Ubuntu, download the appropriate package and install it with the package manager.

GeoGebra Portable is an impressive open-source mathematics application that grants access to an array of calculus, algebra, and geometry tools for students and teachers alike. And, as an added bonus, it is portable. Why go portable? With no installation required, you can simply drop the program files anywhere on the disk and run the executable file directly. You can even move GeoGebra to a USB flash disk to run on any workstation with Java installed. Additionally, it does not create new entries in the Windows registry or Start menu.Intuitive interface and featuresThe interface is user-friendly, with a regular window that displays a few drawing tools at the top. The two primary panes, dedicated to algebraic expressions and graphics, can be rearranged, and algebraic items can be sorted by type, dependency, layer, or construction order.Easy-to-manipulate project elementsGeoGebra enables you to add new points to a line, function, or curve in the graph, create points inside an object, attach or detach points, intersect two objects, and generate complex numbers. You can even display a midpoint or center of a segment, circle or conic.Functional graphical capabilitiesUsers can create perpendicular or parallel lines, polygons, and circles, use a compass, generate a list of angles, translate objects into vectors, insert text and images, inspect functions, and zoom in and out, among other graphical functions. Additionally, every expression in the "Algebra" panel can be traced in the graph, animated, or marked as an auxiliary object.Exporting and customization optionsGeoGebra allows you to save your project for future modifications or share it on the developer's website. You can also print and export your project to file (e.g., HTML, PNG, EPS, GIF), while saving the settings as the default.Impressions and conclusionsGeoGebra supports multiple languages and font sizes, giving advanced users the ability to manage tools as they please. With a good response time and moderate-to-high system resource usage, GeoGebra provides users with everything they need to create impressive math projects and presentations. It's a must-have tool for math enthusiasts and educators.Features of GeoGebra Portable
