Lighthouse Beach - Located between Yoakam Point State Natural Site to the south and Cape Arago Lighthouse to the north. The beach is popular with surfers, kayakers, and birdwatchers and offers slight protection from cross-currents and wind due to the rocky headlands framing the beach. Since the beach does not have a parking lot, most visitors park along the Cape Arago Highway, near the Lighthouse Way intersection, and walk down a path to the beach. The beach can also be accessed via kayak, launching from Sunset Bay State Park or Bastendorff Beach County Park. Cape Arago Loop, Charleston
Horsfall Beach - Beautiful secluded beach located within the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. A great place for beachcombing with plenty of parking, lots of uninterrupted beach, and a variety of other natural amenities. Perfect for pets and kids. Horsefall Beach Rd, North Bend, OR 97459

Beach fishing is a popular and enjoyable activity that attracts many anglers. With the scenic view, fresh air, and the excitement of catching a fish, it's no wonder why so many people enjoy it. However, just like any other type of fishing, there are common mistakes that can ruin your chances of success. In this blog post, we will share the top 5 mistakes to avoid when beach fishing, so you can increase your chances of having a successful day on the water.
One of the biggest mistakes that beach anglers make is ignoring the tides. The tide plays a crucial role in the activity of the fish, and understanding how it affects the fish can be the difference between a successful day and a frustrating one. It's essential to know when the tide is coming in and going out, as well as how strong it is. Fish are most active during the incoming tide, so plan your fishing accordingly.
Using the wrong bait is another common mistake that beach anglers make. The type of bait you use will depend on the species of fish you're targeting. For example, if you're targeting snook, you'll want to use live bait such as pilchards or pinfish. If you're targeting redfish, you'll want to use cut bait such as mullet or shrimp. Do some research on the species of fish in the area and what bait they prefer to increase your chances of catching them.
Using the wrong equipment can make beach fishing a frustrating experience. It's important to have the right rod, reel, and line for the species of fish you're targeting. For example, if you're targeting larger fish such as tarpon or sharks, you'll need a heavy-duty rod and reel. If you're targeting smaller fish such as whiting or pompano, a lighter rod and reel will do. Make sure your line is strong enough to handle the weight of the fish you're targeting as well.
Not paying attention to your surroundings can be a dangerous mistake when beach fishing. It's important to be aware of your surroundings at all times, especially if you're fishing near swimmers or other beachgoers. Always cast away from others and make sure your hook isn't flying towards someone. It's also important to be aware of any changing currents or tides that could put you in danger.
Avoiding these common mistakes can increase your chances of having a successful day beach fishing. Remember to check the tides, use the right bait and equipment, and pay attention to your surroundings. Don't forget to check the weather forecast and dress appropriately for the conditions. By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to a great day of fishing.
