to Misiones 5 Manantiales, mda...@landmarkministries.org
Thank you for your many years of faithful prayer and support for us
and the ministry to which we have been called. May our Lord and
Saviour bless you and all that you do for his honour and glory.
We continue to work and serve in Northern Coahuila, Mexico and in
Eagle Pass, Texas. Work in Mexico has recently become harder and more
dangerous. The violence in this area has now become serious enough to
give us serious pause about continuing to work in Mexico. In the past
month alone, the US authorities have twice closed the port of entry at
Eagle Pass, when battles occurred between the Mexican army and the
drug cartels. Thirty people were executed in Ciudad Acuña several
weeks ago. This past week, grenades were detonated in Piedras Negras
and American law enforcement officials are receiving direct threats
from the drug cartels. The news outlets in the border cities are
under threat of life to not publish or make known the extent of the
violence.
So far this year, we have not had a single mission team come to work
in Mexico or even here on the border. We have had several who brought
us supplies (medical & such), bibles, and tracts, but they will not
cross into Mexico with us, and I cannot blame them. A missionary
friend of mine over in Quemado has not crossed into Mexico for several
months and instead is preaching in a border prison that houses
illegals waiting to be sent back into Mexico. None of his mission
teams have come this year. The churches we work with in Mexico are
struggling as families have left the area to escape the violence and
others are preparing to leave.
The little church here in Eagle Pass is still just a part time work,
with about 30 regular members (there were only 12 when we started).
We have seen much spiritual growth among the people, and God is
calling men into the ministry. We have baptized three or four people
each year and licensed a man to preach; he will be ordained next
month. There is so much work that could be done, we could use five
more churches in this town, but there are no workers.
This is a very difficult time for us. Our heart is still for Mexico,
but it seems as though God is closing that as a field, at least in
this area. Many missionaries that I know, have already left and
others are in the process of leaving. We are in serious prayer to
discern God's will and appreciate you praying with us as we seek his
face. We are looking at and praying about several options. Our
prayer is that God will give us clear direction in the coming weeks,
and that we can make a definite decision before the summer's end.
Thank you for your faithful and continued prayers and support; we will
let you know our decision as soon as we have an answer from the Lord.
In the service of the King,
Daniel White
