Brethren, I am heavy of heart tonight, and I will get to that in a
minute, but first some good news.
Networking:
God is doing some very unusual things and bringing people into our
life in unusual ways. Last week a mission team was turned around at
the border and came by our house asking to unloaded boxes of items
they could not get into Mexico. While we were unloading the van, one
of the men showed me a "pastor's pack", a box of Spanish pastoral
books (Bible atlas, concordance, commentaries, etc.) worth several
hundred dollars. He can get these materials for me at no cost to get
them into Mexico to the pastors with whom we work.
The next day, another man stopped by our house asking to unload a pick-
up load of items for Mexico. He also had been turned around at the
border. While we were unloading, he mentioned that he will not likely
be trying to take any more items into Mexico, but asked if he could
bring them instead to us.
I am not sure how God is working in all of this, but I know he is
working.
Church:
Our little church on this side of the creek is still hanging in, and
God even blessed us with a couple of baptisms last week. This past
Sunday was a real crowd for us, we had 31 in attendance (but that
includes my family of eight). Our men's (Thursday nights) and
ladies' (Monday nights) Bible studies are continuing to go very well,
people are growing spiritually in ways I could never have imagined.
The church has not yet been able to make up the difference in the
reduction that I had to take at the beginning of this year, but I have
been able to substitute teach a few days. That certainly helps, but
in no way makes up the difference. Plus Summer is almost upon us, and
of course I will not be able to teach. Because of the economy and
other reasons I suppose, we have lost nearly all of our mission
support. Praise God, we have no debt except a mortgage. I know God
will see us through, he always has, and I have no reason to doubt him.
It is always amazing to see God provide.
Now the troubling news.
As many of you know, up until now it has been relatively calm here in
our area. However in recent weeks the violence across the creek has
greatly increased. There have been many murders and also kidnappings.
In almost every instance the kidnap victims are never seen again. Many
times there is torture involved, be-headings, and even people being
skinned alive. And now, there have been kidnappings here on this side
of the river.
Please forgive me for relating such graphic details. But these are the
facts, Mexico is a war zone and a failed State.
Here is a weblink to a news site with an article about kidnappings
here in Eagle Pass:

I'm not living in fear, but I am staying prayed up and keeping my
powder dry. Please be in prayer for my family and our church. Please
be in prayer for our brothers across the river. Precious families
that we love are right in the middle of this violence and they have no
where to flee.
Anyone interested in accounts about the Mexico/Border violence that
you will not see on the main stream media, you may visit
http://www.borderlandbeat.com; however, I must warn the ladies and
anyone else, the photos of dead bodies may be graphic. I am not
endorsing the site in any way, but it is one of the few sources
covering the real accounts that are being suppressed by the corporate
media outlets of the US.
Thank you all for your faithful prayers and support.
