Lots of MISFITS news - Organizational changes, Ice Cream Social, and road construction update

First, effective August 9th, Elliott James has decided to step down
from his position as Director of Finance for MISFITS. In accordance
with our bylaws, any who are interested in submitting their candidacy
for the remainder of his elected term (which is currently through the
end of the 2010 convention, with his position up for election this
coming January) should contact bo...@misfit.org by August 20th.
Candidates will be interviewed by the Society Board Members who will
make the final selection. If you have any questions about
responsibilities or duties, contact the same or any director.

We appreciate everything Elliott has done for the organization and the
community, and look forward to working with him in other capacities!

Second, on August 3rd, 2009, The Board of the MN Society for Interest
in Science Fiction & Fantasy has decided by a unanimous vote to change
the structure of our organization.

The MN Society for Interest in Science Fiction and Fantasy (MISFITS)
will retain its identity, nonprofit status, and mission. CONvergence
will be spun off as a separate nonprofit with its own mission. This
exciting change represents a major step in the evolution of our
organization as we find new ways to partner with each other and
beyond.

The two organizations will continue to work together, including
teaming up for events. MISFITS fundraisers will continue, including
their auctions hosted at CONvergence, and any new fundraising
initiatives they plan to hold. The Board has also committed to a
relationship of revenue sharing at current levels by CONvergence
through at least 2012.

The structure and managerial duties of the two will change, with each
maintaining an autonomous executive board. Final changes to the bylaws
and details of the new organizations will be hammered out by January
1, 2010. Any questions can again be sent to any member of the Board
of Directors.

MISFITS Annual Ice Cream Social

Join us for this annual treat! MISFITS will provide all the ice creamy
goodness. Bring games to share and join your fellow geeks for
socializing.

This year we will be hosting an Ice Cream Contest! Whip up a half
gallon of your favorite or wackiest flavor to be judged by your fellow
geek attendees - prizes will be awarded!

Also, MNDot has felt it necessary to shut down entire sections of I-94
again this weekend, just like they did back in June on the weekend of
our picnic. This appears to be mostly in the north Minneapolis/
Brooklyn Center area of I-94, but it will probably affect traffic all
over the NW side of town. Please plan accordingly when trying to get
to St. Paul on Saturday.
