I've got tables booked for the 2nd Sunday in June & I've got another
gamer to run the event: Don has offered the following:

"I'll throw my battered hat into the ring. I can bring/setup some B&P
Space
Marines for driveby gaming (
http://www.glewwe-castle.com/brawl-factory/spacemarines.html ), as
well as run
fantasy and/or sci-fi barroom brawls (6-10 players), or a 'Monster
Island"/"Destroy All Monsters" sort of thing (= big thingies smashing
buildings
and squishing tanks...). Other possibilities within the genre (ie:
best enjoyed
-and created- in a chemically-induced state of irrationality...) I can
offer are
games such as "Skating Penguins" and "Vermin Khan" - you can check out
a
(limited, outdated) list of what I've made at
http://www.glewwe-castle.com/brawl-factory/ to get an idea of the sort
of
insanity I peddle.

If I bring/run enough fantasy/sci-fi stuff can I twist the Napoleonic
arms into
helping me with my WW1 air combat idea sometime...?

don"

Please support Don people. This is your club.

"...I've got another gamer to run the event..."

I hope to obtain some feedback/input in regards to what I will bring
for people to play -either from this page or (hopefully) from people
at the May 23rd meeting- and will then post a list/menu of the lineup
for the 13th.

Since much of what I have is designed for "judge-less" play, I can
have two or three things set up and people can try what they want when
they want for as long as they want. If there is enough interest (ie:
at least a half-dozen players) I can run one of the brawls.

OK, wait, so there's two differnt meetings --
May 23 and June 13 -- and you will be at both
and are taking suggestions for what to bring,
correct so far? Or am I off?

But obviously you don't have every game in
existence, nor the ability to GM all of them,
so what are you able/willing to bring and/or
run on May 23?

I don't know that I can come on the 23rd.
Commencement is May 22 (woot!) and I do
not know if I will stay in St. Paul that
night or go to my Mom's house afterwards.

And unfortunately, for me June 13 is even
less certain. Since I am looking for jobs
I cannot predict anything about my schedule
more than a week in advance. It's no fun for
me to be this confused and obviously makes
any sort of planning very hard! But I would
like to come if possible.

"...two differnt meetings -- May 23 and June 13 -- and you will be at

Yup.

"...what are you able/willing to bring and/or run on May 23?"

Out of the stuff in my cellar that has at least a vague tie to sci-
fi / fantasy, I could bring:

- one (or more) of the Space Marine scenarios (solo / team play)
- VerminKhan...really just a boardgame with minis (two-player or two
teams of two)
- Sucking Vacuum (a playtest version of the boardgame by Alien Menace)
- Martians! (Twilight Creations' mod of Zombies!)
- Berserker Halflings... (fantasy version of Z-Man's "Graverobbers..."
card game)

All of the above could be played without a GM (though I --and/or maybe
my son-- would be handy to answer questions) by anyone who just wanted
to sit down and try playing.

I could also (given enough desire, ie: 4-10 players interested) run
one of the brawls (fantasy or sci-fi) or a giant-monster (eg:
Godzilla, et al) city-smash / brawl. Either of those would take
around 3 hours...no more than 4, and perhaps as little as two (if the
damage-dice roll bloody!).

If I don't hear otherwise, I will just bring the Marines' spaceship on
the 23rd, and may very well stick my nose into Elliot's game...

Well, as it turns out I definitely cannot come on May 23rd, but perhaps I can make it to the June 13th gaming day.

Out of the games you mentioned, the giant monsters destroying cities sounds the most fun.

If I can come on June 13, I can also bring my Magic, Munchkin, Fluxx, Guardians, and Aquarius cards, if anyone were interested in playing with me.

Anyway, thanks to Elliot and Don and everyone else who are running these events and games!

"...June 13th gaming day...giant monsters destroying cities..."

Only one city, I'm afraid: each monster doesn't get its own city to
stomp...but there are plenty of tanks to squish!

So that's one vote for giant monsters. If I don't hear any other
requests in the next couple of weeks I'll go with that -- perhaps make
a poster/flyer to leave at The Source advertising it?...dunno.

re: increasing interest / attendance at the gaming days
I know I'm sticking my nose into a well-established concern, here, and
don't want to come across as Mickey and Judy (...all brighteyed and
perky, ready to fix up the barn and put on a show...), but I was
wondering if there is another known "watering hole" where (possibly)
interested might-be-gamers congregate and where advertisement of these
events could be made? I looked at the parent group's discussion page,
and it's even more lightweight than this one - so it doesn't seem to
be a viable venue for getting the word out. Is there a place (or
places) -either physical or cyber- that I could visit to shill the
games?

You can try these folks:

http://www.meetup.com/MinneapolisRoleplayers/

They are in Minneapolis instead of St. Paul, but there seem to be a lot of board readers. I haven't signed up because I reject the site server's terms of service, but they have periodic meetings where people (incl. non-members) can "network" with fellow gamers and try to find those with similar interests. Posting something on their boards may get a response or at least interest.

What's wrong with meetup's TOS?  Do they assert ownership of your posts or something?

To sign up with Meetup, you must agree up front to pay any and all fees
they may decide to enact at any time in the future, no matter what the
reason or ammount, with no mention of a provision for avoiding the fees
by terminating the account. It's stated that they can decide at any time
to create a fee simply for using the basic service (i.e., not for any
additional services you start using.) You must hand them a blank check
and pray they never fill it out and cash it.

I'm feeling generous, so I'll say this:

Damn, that's sloppy writing. To have something as egregious as that
in the TOS...they need to hire better lawyers. Someone to do a sanity
check on the legalese.

If I weren't feeling generous, I'd rant about how evil those terms are
-- but I don't think that the Meetup people will try anything like
that. It would be impractical to try to collect (unless you now need
a credit card on file just to sign up for a meetup account...nuts to
that), and it would create such a huge backlash among their userbase
that it would likely put 'em out of business.

TOS terms are getting more and more outrageous with every passing month.

Glad I'm not the only person to balk at those terms. They also state that if "in [their] sole discretion" they decide to start charging fees for the basic service, they only have to notify members by mentioning it somewhere on their website. If you don't re-read their terms of service every day, you're screwed (I have never seen a website that offers to actually notify members of TOS changes -- every single one requires members to re-read the TOS frequently). Meetup doesn't ask for a credit card number immediately, but maybe that comes after you click "Sign Up."

I agree that TOS terms all over the net are outrageous. I think this is probably probably because of a distinct lack of regulation and consumer protection laws for online businesses.

Argh, you may have to count me out of June 13th as well (and disregard my vote for giant monsters). I did not know that the upcoming wedding of my cousin is on the 12th. I've been considering going. I really should. I wish I could go to both the wedding and the game day, but I don't think there is a way. I think we have to RSVP by Wednesday, so by then hopefully I will know more.

Sorry for the confusion.

Latest news for the June 13th gameday:

I've corralled a few family and friends to be there, so there should
(presumably) be enough bodies present to warrant the running of either
a brawl (fantasy or, more likely, sci-fi) or giant-monster city-smash.

In either case, I would use the sand table and smaller rectangular
table for my stuff, and leave the conference table open for whatever
card or board games that drop by --I will also have a supply of same
available.

The suggestion box is still open/available for any who wish to place a
vote for something they'd like to see.

FWIW, my son helped me create a facebook page for the Brawl Factory on
which I plan to advertise Misfit gaming events (amongst other things).

I'm definately a cyber-newbie/klutz, so apologies if this is not done
well/correctly - but if you care to share/suggest/whatever the page
(Glewwe Brawl Factory) more exposure/interest in the group's
activities may be the result? dunno...

The web page has been locked down for the name/logo change.

My understanding is that The MISFITS of Gaming has a "Glewwe Brawl Factory" on June 13th at The Source.  It will run from 12:00 to 5:00.  Is this correct?

If I can get a description of what the game is, or what to bring, I'll include that!

In the meantime, I'll add the date to the GPS Calendar, the Social Calendar, and to the upcoming e-mail blast.  It's also to be featured prominently in the latest GPS flyer.

I'll also forward the event to the Facebook coordinator for her to advertise on Fb.

"The MISFITS of Gaming has a "Glewwe Brawl Factory" on June 13th at
The Source.  It will run from 12:00 to 5:00.  Is this correct?"

Yes - though since the store doesn't open its door until noon, the
dice won't roll until after things get set up...perhaps as late as 1
for the featured game, though anyone arriving at noon could certainly
break out a card or board game right away.

"...a description of what the game is..."

The featured game (on the big sandtable) will be a giant-monster-style
fight with Godzilla-ish behemoths venting their radioactive ire on the
city, the puny tanks that pester them, and their fellow monsters. The
rules used will be homemade and are far from "serious" - their
intended mood is lighthearted fun with a good dose of silliness thrown
in.

I'll also set up a scenario for the Beer&Pretzel Space Marines that
one or two people can play on the smaller rectangular table.

The big conference table will be available for card and/or boardgames
- I'll bring along a small sampling, and of course anyone can bring
whatever they like.

"...forward the event to the Facebook coordinator for her to advertise
on Fb."

What is the link/name of the FB page? I searched and couldn't find
one, so I made one for the Glewwe Brawl Factory on which to advertise
the event. Is there a way to link/coordinate the two pages? ...or
would it be best if I were to drop mine so as not to "spread the
wealth"?

My family and a couple of the kids' friends were the only attendees,
but had a little fun playing the Giant Monster Brawl anyway before
heading out to graduation parties. I took a few photos of the game
which can be seen on the Factory's photobucket page (
