Hi again Mises-TA list members!

Please feel free to apply for a summer Mises Academy course!

Same procedures as last time, which are as follows...

If you are selected to TA for a Mises Academy course, you will receive free enrollment in the particular course, plus a $50 Mises Store digital coupon that you will receive after the course is complete.

(Terminology note, regarding software: "Webex" is the online system we use for our live lectures.  "Moodle" is the online system we use for everything else, including registration, assignments, and grades.

One requirement, due to technical constraints, is that you need to have a PC.  Unfortunately, it's necessary for a key TA task.

Before assisting the class, you'll need to attend an online 1-hour training meeting.
Also, we may need you to help set up the Moodle "Syllabus Page", if it isn't already set up.

You need to be available to attend each online lecture live.  For the vast majority of the time, you can just watch and enjoy the lecture like any other student.  But there are just a few couple technical support things you'll need to do at the beginning and at the end.  Also if any technical emergencies come up, you'll need to try to help.

In addition to the time doing preliminary training/set-up and watching/supporting each weekly lecture, you'll need to do an estimated 1.5 hours/week of other support work.

The following are the regular weekly tasks
  • Editing and improving Powerpoint slideshows
  • Using a Webex program to convert the lecture recording to other formats
  • Uploading and posting weekly live session resources (slides, lecture recordings, and chat logs)
In addition there are the following ad hoc tasks
  • Create various Moodle elements as needed.
  • Responding to student Moodle help requests.
If you are interested, please send me (not the mailing list) an email including
  • The course you would like to sign up for.
  • One paragraph on why you would be a good fit for this.  Focus primarily on computer skills, dependability, and customer relations.
  • One reference (name, relationship, and email).

Thanks!

Greetings Mr. Sanchez,

I'm very excited about the prospect of assisting with the academy!

I am free this summer, so I am going to apply for both Ayn Rand and Objectivism with David Gordon as well as The Road to Serfdom: Then and Now with Tom DiLorenzo.

I believe I will be a uniquely superb candidate for the TA position. I am a full time remote technician (Tier II) for Windows-based home systems, and have been for the past year and a half. Before that I was a full time independent on-site technician, and I have experience designing simple websites for home and small-business clients as well. I am quite competent and reliable, and I am free for the summer from college courses (for once), allowing me to focus my energies on the needs of the students and professor. In addition, my job involves extensive customer interaction, so my skills concerning customer relations over electronic medium are especially sharp.

For a reference, I submit my former economics professor, Harold Van Boven, whose email is hvan...@edison.edu. If you are looking for a more professional (or technically-related) reference, my manager at work's name is Daniel Bell and his email address is db...@computercentersusa.com.

I think this will work out quite well. I hope to hear from you soon!

- Daniel Francis

I'd also like to apply for both Keynes, Krugman, and the Crisis and Libertarianism and Modern Philosophers.

You have my information, and I very much hope I am selected!
