Does anyone know an easy way to convert this http://mises.org/daily/2973 to doc with embedded footnotes? By hand, we are talking about ghastly amounts of work, all for the purpose of moving to indesign (or maybe to LaTex would be better?). Theories welcome.

It might be simpler to transform it straight from XHTML to InDesign IDML. Can you create a sample InDesign file, complete with footnotes and blockquotes, using the content beginning with the heading, "Opportunism and Rhetoric", up to the heading, "Churchill and the New Liberalism"? If so, I can create a set of XSLT stylesheets to transform the entire essay into a native InDesign file.
