to miserece
Iused to be able to control Apple TV with my Sony Bravia TV remote. All of a sudden, two days ago, it stopped working. I have done everything. I can still turn Apple TV on and off but I could no longer navigate. When I try "Learn Remote", it doesn't recognize it. I'm not sure if there was a software update that created this issue.

Update - I found threads on other websites where people were discussing this issue from just this week - some said after the most recent software push 17.4. People were reporting the same thing on other brand TV remotes...Samsung, Panasonic you name it. Some of them sent a bug report to Apple. So I'm sure it'll get fixed. Good thing is it's not just us with the Sony remotes - kind of relieving, because was starting to wonder about my TV.

im having this same issue. started to experience this Saturday (march 16th). in my room i have a sony a80j and 1st gen 4k atv model which is where i am experiencing this issue. in my living room, i have the sony a80j as well but with a 2nd gen model atv with no issues. both atv and tvs are up to the latest firmware updates. i hard reset my bedroom atv (the one with the issues) and still the same thing. also checked bravia sync settings and still nothing. i even tried another remote. super annoying. i hope apple fixes this. i dont want to buy the newer for my bedroom just for this to work

I had the same issue, starting March 20, after updating my ATV to 17.4 ; the sony bravia remote is no longer connect to the ATV, must used 2 remote instead of 1, quite annoying. Do everything recommend on web, factory reset, learning remote, still can't.

After going through the entire set up, disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it for every single click, I gave the remote a new name, then selected it and clicked. It asked me to set it up all over again.

I tried to do this but when I went remote and devices, it only showed my phone. I tried to reset my Apple Remote by holding the tv button and volume down for 5-10 seconds. Still nothing. Thanks for the recommendation though

Only slight issue is that now when you try to control the TV itself e.g. change brightness settings it is also controlling the screen of the Apple TV as inputs at the same time. However not an issue most of the time.

This is so crazy, my SONY remoted worked with my Verizon STB for about 2-3 months and then just out of nowhere stopped working. No changes, that I was aware of. I can't find any way to get it working again. I have about 3 hours into it with no luck.

If I press the power button on the Sony remote to turn things off, the television shuts down, but the STB remains active (the status LED stays fully bright). If I turn the television back on, I see the program that I was just watching.

Could be a bad code from the Sony remote, also look into the CEC from the Sony TV to the Fios box. Some combination of device control on the TV and TV Input Control on the Fios box might be able to do what you need.

Does the Fios remote still work? Does the Sony remote still control the TV? Did you try unplugging the Fios Box for at least 3 minutes then plugging it back in? Is CEC enabled on the Sony TV and Video Input control enabled on the Fios box?

My Sony television came with an RMF-TX800U remote control. I don't remember if it turned on the Fios mini/remote STB. I use the Fios remote to turn things on & off and use the Sony remote to make adjustments to the television.

I just unpaired and then re-paired the Sony remote to the Arris IPC4100 mini and it doesn't control the power. The STB can be powered on by changing channels (which will switch channels in addition to powering on the STB) but pressing the power button on the remote doesn't power off the STB.

The 4100 boxes never really turn off, the Fios logo-start screen will ALWAYS be on unless you are watching TV. There is no way to disable it either. The only thing you can do is put it in standby, which is the screensaver.

I would like to thank everyone for taking the time to post your comments and opinions related to this topic. This topic has been thoroughly discussed and will now be closed. Please feel free to open a new thread for further discussion. Thank you.

I too can't get my Rocu Remote to control the on/off, nor the sound volume. My TV is a SONY. My remote will connect and allow me to select Netflix, MAX. Prime, etc but never the on off or volume. Sad..

Your Remote/TV combination may be able to control power, volume and mute over the HDMI connection via CEC so that you don't have to rely on the remote having the correct IR codes for the TV. My 11-year old Samsung is too old for this feature, but maybe your set isn't.

I have a Sony KD-55XD9305 Android TV and until a few weeks ago it was working absolutely fine. However, recently I have had an intermittent issue with it taking some time to respond to commands from the remote control. The problem seemed to generally manifest after the TV was first switched on or after a period of "inactivity" e.g. after having watched something on iplayer or Netflix for 30+ mins.

I tested the IR by looking at the IR output using a digital camera and also tested the batteries, both tests were fine. The software was also up to date. I therefore contacted Sony and they were apparently not aware of any similar issues so they arranged an engineer visit. However, before the engineer visit I read another blog on the Sony Community where someone with a similar issue on a different model ended up chaging the remote batteries (despite them testing fine) and this solved his problem. I therefore tried the same thing and it seems to have solved my issue as well. So it seems that these remotes can be quite sensitive to even slightly drained batteries.

Since I had the same exact issue yesterday I'd like to add that it is possible to check the battery level in the bluetooth settings, clicking on the device. Obviously this is possible only with the remotes making use of the bluetooth, like the one that has the mic for voice commands. Mine, brand new Duracell, not the ones from Sony which lasted a week or so, were at 29%, after just few months (so much for one year. I seldom use the voice control). Replacing the batteries it worked much better, although I must say that the IR receiver isn't very good. I must point the remote directly to it. My small Bravia in the kitchen gets the signal even with the remote a meter under the television, pointing anywhere.

I have a Roku Streaming Stick+ with an enhanced remote. The remote has suddenly stopped controlling my TV. I have searched and tried all of the troubleshooting tips found but it still will not work as it previously had.

We would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps provided by our Support pages here:

How do I set up my Roku enhanced remote to control my TV?

Why is my Roku enhanced remote not controlling volume and power on my TV?

If you are still unable to resolve the issue you are experiencing, please send me a PM (private message) with your Roku account email address, and include the serial number of the Roku device from Settings>System>About along with a summary of the issue you are experiencing. I'll be able to pass it along to our Support team to see what other troubleshooting they can provide.

May we first know what Roku remote you are having issues with? Refer to our Support article to help you Identify your remote. Are there any flickering lights on your device or TV whenever you try to press buttons on your remote? Also, have you tried to put on a new set of fresh batteries or charge it if it's rechargeable? Try to reset it by pressing the Back and Home buttons simultaneously for about 60 seconds and re-pair it again to see if it will make any difference.
