A lot of times, beginner guitarists will skip a section they find difficult. Don't do that. Practice as much as you need to before moving on to the next section, otherwise, you will have holes in your knowledge and get stuck later on.

A beginner guitarist needs to learn popular songs to stay motivated, but Truefire lacks in this department.
Fender Play is an online learning platform for guitar, bass, and ukulele, created by the well-known guitar brand, Fender. It is their way of vertically integrating another segment of the guitar market, and it makes a lot of sense to do so for them.
The only negative here is that some lessons are rehashed and used in more than 1 genre course. This is ok with a lesson on holding the C major chord, for example, but there are some lessons that are not appropriate for the given genre at all. This is a minor setback which I hope Fender will address.
Learning guitar songs early on helps keep beginners motivated and practicing more. One of the main reasons many newbies end up quitting is that they are made to do boring exercises. Practicing real songs helps keep each practice session fun and exciting.
