I have downloaded and installed all of the firmware/software updates I can find, but I am running into disappointing problem -- the scanner does not seem to be connecting.

When I try to open IJ Scan Utility, it starts searching for the scanner and does not find it.

When I try to use Image Capture or open the scanner through OS, it recognizes the scanner as a driver (I think from the updates I downloaded?) but then when I click scan, nothing happens.

When I plug the scanner in via USB, I hear a brief sound and then nothing.

Can someone please help? I am reading some responses that seem to suggest this is an issue with the OS and Canon and it will not be resolved? Did I purchase the wrong thing and I should just return it? Is there any hope of getting this to work?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I recommend to have this issue looked at by our support team. Canon does have a chat team that would be happy to assist you with this issue. um. I have a canon Lide 400 working with MACOS 12 and 13. There is software for earlier versions. For versions 12 and 13 read below. For an earlier version of MACOS, load the software, for version 12 and 13 read below

Do NOT load the supplied software. The scanner will be picked up automatically by AirPrint. (I know it is not a wireless device but it will be recognised if plugged in). You can check this by startimg Preview and under the file menu there will be an option to scan.

It turns out that it was actually a very simple fix, and hopefully this will help anyone else that encounters this problem. The fix is to unlock the scanner with the physical switch on the bottom. Then everything started working.

4. In the OUTPUT SETTINGS section, look for the Output Resolution field, then select a resolution from the options displayed by clicking the button, or enter a value within the range of 25 dpi to 19200 dpi (in 1 dpi increments).

Hi - Having trouble setting up mu Lide220 to scan above 600dpi on the mac (I need to hIt 1200). I can maunch the IJ scan Unitilty 2 - but there appears to be no way to up the dpi setting above 600 - What am I missing?

I too am having this EXACT problem with my 2016 15" MBP with touchbar. The printer will go up to 4800dbpi, but when using the scanner utility, it won't go above 600. VERY frustrating! I installed the drivers, but see no change whatsoever. I even tried an older LIDE 120, which has 2400DPI, but the same problem. I REALLY need a solution to this problem, ASAP. I love the layout of this printer, as it works for me in my particular situation. Any solutions would be GREATLY welcome. Thanx

Canon Lide 120 bought, impossible to scan above 600 dpi on MacBook Pro. Exchange at store to Canon Lide 220, same problem. It's not acceptable from a company like Canon to supply a High Res scanner which software is not compatible on mac. Please provide us a software update to use the product as we paid for with all its capacities. Otherwise, I will buy a HP scanner and I will never bought another canon product.

Please click HERE to open the support page for your CanoScan LiDE 220 and select the software tab. Once you are in the software tab, download the ScanGear Starter EX Ver.1.0. and then install it on your computer.

If you are still unable to select 1200dpi, troubleshooting with our support group will be needed to narrow down the cause of the issue. Please contact our support group using the "Contact Us" link below for additional assistance. You will have the option to speak to one of our phone or live chat agents.

I have an old Canon LiDE 90 scanner that works with no problem under Windows 7. Currently I am in a process of switching from Windows (7) to Ubuntu (18.10). One of my problems is that I cannot use my scanner in Ubuntu. When I connect this scanner to Ubuntu it is not recognized by the scanner software that comes with Ubuntu. I know that my scanner is not supported by the Sane Project in Linux: -project.org/unsupported/canon-lide-90.html

The Canon LiDE 90 scanner works in Ubuntu 20.10 (groovy). Previous versions of Ubuntu did not have support for this scanner. With SANE being upgraded to version 1.0.31, you can use this scanner with GUI utilities like simple-scan.

However, my comment above (to run the Canon utility in a virtualized old Windows OS) still is my preferred method. With this method you are using the real software from Canon and thus you can fully utilize the potential of this scanner.

I have tried EVERY "fix it" I've found on Google and nothing is working. I've changed my computer to Power Saver battery option -- didn't work. Changed the suspension on the USB port...didn't work. Yes, I'm using a 3.0 USB port on a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series laptop. I have Windows 10 and I think that's the #1 problem --- Windows 10.

I've installed two different drivers that's supposed to work... didn't. I've installed it via the CD-ROM, didn't work...uninstalled and re-installed via the website... didn't work. Nothing is working.

Should I just return the scanner and go with a different brand of product? I already have trouble with my Canon MG3500 series printer so.. I should have known better than to buy a Canon portable scanner.

I'm having the same problem with 2 LiDE 300 scanners. The scanning element is returning to the hindge side . When I first plug the unit into a Windows 10 computer, the element moves slowly from the hindge side to the button side then the element light comes on for a fraction of a second and the element then quickly returns to the hindge side and the unit doesn't work. I hope there is something I can do to fix it here as I no longer have a receipt.

Hi, sorry -- "make sure that the scanning element is on the side with the buttons, not the hinge side"? Did you want me to smash through the glass and force it over? If the problem with it not working is the scanning element is supposed to be on the "button side," then I think it was YOU GUYS who were supposed to "make sure" it doesn't default to the hinge side!

i have tried everything and found a temporary fix, when the bar gets to the bottom I mash the auto scan button many times and it fixes the bar and the scanner goes back to normal but it goes back to be normal the next time I try to use it. now this fix has stopped working, this is planned obsolescence by canon. So we have to buy new scanners every few months. This is a firmware issue. That I am sure of. they have no way to rest its firmware.

I've now replaced 4 different Lide300 scanners that have exhibited this behavior. Canon techs insist they haven't seen this issue so now I have to request that the scanner is tested prior to leaving their facility. I hope there is a fix for this because it is an otherwise great little scanner.

I have the same problem as you. Got replacement but same with that on. Tried on 7 computers and nothing works. Must be same secret because someone seem to have them working. I have packed it back in the box and waiting for someone to have a solution.

So my first replacement had the same Code: 2, 156, 33 error with scan bar rest at the hinge side. But this the support insisted it is a software issue, using remote desktop to uninstall and re-intall driver a few time (which I have done like 10 times ), finally told me to update windows and she will call me back the next day which didn't happened.
