When I walked into the art show/watercolor workshop this afternoon the first
thing I saw was "Mingo Junction Morning," for $400, oil painting.

The demo was actually on collages with watercolors and any scraps on hand.
I learned to put the dollop of glue on the edge of my hand (thumb side) and
then drag the necklace or string or butter foil wrapper through it rather
than try to put glue on the back then paste when hands are all sticky.
Also, instead of laying a section of toilet paper in the wet paint, roll it
across the paint and then pick it up from the loose end. Isn't that neat?

But the best part was her advice. I asked her about preservation and
permanancy of her materials since she was using watercolor, acrylic, gesso,
pencil, ink, chalk, glue, pieces of photographs, etc. (assuming someone was
going to pay her a lot of money for this). She just laughed. "None of us
here are going to be famous--there are just too many outstanding artists in
the world. Just have a good time." Good plan for many endeavors, including
writing.
