Post-modernist bullshit got replaced by neo-colianalist bullshit.
The worst fate is to glide out of fashion. Sadly, post-modernism has
succumbed this terrible fashion disease. I don't like novels that have
no plot, and consist of the phone book interspersed with a bus
time-table; so, it's good riddance to all of *that*.
In the zietgeist domain, PM did have a few good insights. For instance,
the collapse of the social meta-narrative. I was inculcated with the
notion that things would get better and better for everyone; then along
came the 80's, when the hippies became greedy, materialistic yuppies,
and intead of wage slaves working 2 hours per week--extrapolating from
the past and the clear trajectory of shrinking work hours--people began
working 70 hrs per week, and unrighteous mammon was replaced as
societies' god, once again.
The change in weltanshauung[sp?] was helpfully explained away by
post-modernism and the 'post-industrial society' phenomenon.
Literary theory, which said nothing mattered, in a nihilistic sort of
way, gave way to neocolonial crap.
A Japanese lady I know studied Anne of Green Gables at school, later at
university while doing her Bachelor of Attendance, and did her
post-grad thesis on, yep, Anne of Green Gables.
In my days at Uni, we insinuated Existentialism and Freud into our
essays; that was when old fluffy was a pup.
