<Disclaimer: I would not / did not vote for an individual because he /
she is 'hot'. Or 'cool'.>

Now, if we're talking hot, Obama's hot. And cool, too. Not like
Hollywood, "oh lookie! I'm so cool!," but in a 'you're born with it, or
you're not' kinda nonchalance that you got or you don't and you can't
teach and goes across all racial / party / gender lines. The man's
comfortable in his skin, and I don't give a rat's ass what color the
skin is. Man's gotta ability to wear a plain white shirt and make it
look like Armani. We're talking about an *old* Hollywood Cary Grant
kinda cool that the Baldwin Boys or a Bill Clinton can only dream of.

He is my president. Or will be in a couple weeks. I will give him the
respect that the office demands. I hope he succeeds wildly. And, yeah,
I celebrate the fact that 48 years after he would have had to gone to
the left in my little town's doctor's office to the waiting room labeled
"Colored" while I went to the right in a waiting room labeled "White",
he will now be president of the United States of America. Damn. Whadda
country.

He seems mega-disciplined and I like that. I don't think we're gonna
see a Bill Clinton kinda transition. He ain't gonna toss away
everything he's worked for to get his willie washed by an intern. I
think he's smart. Damned smart. And boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh
boy it is gonna be gooood to have a really smart president.

But, yeah, he worries me. He has promised so much, and the pie chart of
money is finite. For the life of me, I can't see how he can get there
from here.

My pie chart of money is finite, too. And it's pretty much stretched to
the limit. I gots no more slices to give to anyone after I get finished
taking care of me and mine and the mine's that mine have begetted.
While I applaud the "free tuition with peace corp or community service"
and other programs, if he's gonna be eating some of my slices, I'm gonna
have trouble paying for the necessities of life as in shelter and food.
I understand he ain't gonna be taking from me, but RICH PEOPLE, but I
kinda think the reason some of those people are rich is not because they
are luckier than me or greedier than me or more corrupt than me but
because they worked harder and smarter than I did, and it kinda seems
counter productive to penalize people for doing real well.

But, damn. That man's hot.

It's gonna be interesting.

Can't disagree with a single word of that. As to the lattermost
point, that too is resolvable if a higher rate of taxation went for
inherited wealth (which is never deserved) rather than for wealth
produced by those who, as noted, "worked harder and smarter."

And what of those who worked harder and smarter with what daddy and
mommy left them in the will, a Howard Hughes for example? There you
have your answer: a man walking around in the nude with Kleenex boxes
for shoes, while elsewhere people are walking around with nary a shoe
to blow their noses in at all. Tax the degenerate bastards, I say,
that they might indeed work harder and smarter.

Not to mention he writes his own books. _Dreams of My Father_ is the better
of the two. Great stories in it; coming of age trials told with insight,
imagination and empathy. Anyone who'd read it will have felt a little pang
at the news of Toot's death. (and nothing but contempt for those who
repeated the lie that in her last days, he had gone to Hawaii to
manufacture a false birth-certificate)

As a child,'Barry' would listen as Toot and Gramps and Mom told him stories
about the tall Kenyan he'd never met. This one must have impressed him: It
was back in 1960, or thereabouts, in Hawaii. Barack Snr, and Mom were in a
bar together. An American tourist didn't like the look of the African. He
complained to the barman, objecting to having to drink with a 'colored.'
Barack Senior stood up and lectured him on the evils of racism, pulling out
bits of history and philosophy. His rebuke was so forceful, and so well
received by the other drinkers in the bar, that the tourist apologised and
bought a round for everyone present. No wonder Barack Jnr speaks well - he
learned early the power of words.

If there's only 2 million to make versus 3 million, somebody's still going
to want to make it. Even if there's only 300K to make versus 400K,
somebody's still going to want to make it. I know I certainly would if I
could cash in my subtantionally < 95% of the population's wage; 300K looks
pretty good to me; I'd even be willing to work 60 hours a week to make it;
why not? I already work 50 hours to make my subtantially < 95% of the
population's wage so the big wigs I work for can work half as much, make 10
times the amount, and have fat expense accounts and a private jet to travel
off to these enticing locations for monthly so-called conferences to yuk it
up with their pals. Put me in the penalty box, I say! I won't complain about
paying the tax increase Obama says I'll be paying. I swear I won't!

I absolutely agree. And not only cool, but classy.

Obama won't be able to do everything he wants to, that's for sure, and
there will have to be compromises. Every president faces that. But the
ideas he shared with us during the campaign represent his *vision* for
this country, what he sees as the highest priorities and what he intends
to work hard to accomplish. For the first time in 8 years I believe he
is the leader America needs, and will do everything in his power to head
our country in the right direction.

I *thought* he said he'd just be rolling back the tax cuts that Bush
gave the "rich people" during his two terms and that he (Obama) would
bring the tax rate down to what it was during Clinton's time. The
wealthy folks did okay under Clinton if I remember right.

And if Obama cuts back on some of the expenses you guys are paying for
in Iraq, (even though he'll probably raise costs for the war in
Afghanistan), there might be a net savings that can go to funding of
programs. You never know. I trust the guy, but you're right -- it's
gonna be a tough row to hoe, what with all the promises he's made.

Totally.

Let's also add the hotness factor of being really, really smart.
Thoughtful. Funny (singing Disco Inferno during tech difficulties in
debate prep). Loves his wife and family so much it's obvious and true.
And did I mention smart? So, yeah to that.

Physical looks aren't enough for me. There has to be a humanity in a man's

He looks like a lower rung hit-man to me. A sneaky one. That's the
feeling I get.

Nope, he doesn't. And you're right about physical looks not being
enough.

Clooney's classic handsome - and the underlying fun-streak is an added
bonus. I always thought Edward R. Murrow was drop dead gorgeous, and
Colin Powell too. Paul Newman would've made me weak in the knees, had
I ever met him. Met Pierre Trudeau once - shook his hand. Lordy,
knees almost buckled there too. God, he was good looking.

Doesn't matter what they look like, brainy guys with a sense of
humour, a healthy ego and sense of self-confidence (without going
overboard) are almost always good looking in the end -- if you wait it
out and give it time. And most men would say the same about most
women, if they stopped to think about it. IMO only, of course.

Yeah, I never cared for him on ER. It wasn't until he did the O Brother
movie that I saw any promise in him and when he joined his father in Africa,
then he started to look like a real person. One thing that has bothered me
about Palin is how his girls and his wife are always carrying the baby and
big bags of stuff and he just walks behind them looking self-important. A
big guy like that should be doing some of the heavy work for the women. He's
supposed to be such a Mr. Mom kind of guy, but he sure hasn't shown that on
the campaign trail. There's just so much more to being an appealing man than
looks. I don't consider Obama handsome, but when he turned to help his wife
out of the car yesterday and he kissed his girls goodbye at school, now
that's hot. That's the kind of guy you can see spending a lifetime with.
