it's knowing that the ONLY rules that apply to you as a writer are the
exact same rules that apply to everyone else.

no more. no less.

(and i don't mean grammar, either).

there are no sweetheart deals.

there is no political clout.

there are no shortcuts.

there is no nepotism.

there is no possible way to fake it.

there is no cheating.

ass-kissing does not help in any way at all.

the scorecards mean nothing.

etc..

Only until you go down and stand in line at the
D.W.V. and get your artistic license. Then you
have the literary right of way.

Now, ass-kissing is a slippery slope. Discretion is
the better part...
