There's something amazing that happens when you're
flying a plane in the evening. You start to see a light here
and there across the landscape, then all of a sudden the
entire earth is twinkling like a Christmas tree. You can
sense the planetary transition as thousands of people
begin their ride home from work, signs come on and the
light begins to fade beyond the curve. The cockpit grows
dark until your pupils adjust to the red glow overhead that
reflects off the instrument panel. Now I'm just a ghost on
the black sky, the blinking lights of a phantom flight.
