Does anybody know if THE SIMPSONS accepts spec scripts? If they do,
where and to whom do you send it?

Thanking you in advance,

From what I have heard, no they donšt.

But it is a staple in the portfolio of just about every sitcom writer in
Hollywood. So keep it; you didnšt waste your time. Now go and do
something else to try to get a leg up.

Good luck -

Only if your Conan O'brian (sp)

The only show I know of that accepts specs, of its own, are the Star
Trek Series!

I've read that The Simpsons ignores outside scripts of any kind. Probably
what you should do is use your spec script to attract the attention of
Brillstein-Grey, the agency/management/production company that now
dominates comedy. If not Brillstein-Grey, then some small, struggling
agency that wants to be the next Brillstein-Grey.

One way to attract the attention of Brillstein-Grey might to be to call
310 information, get the company's address, then mail a script.

Here are other methods you might try:

- If you live outside Los Angeles, Chicago or New York, call your college
alumni office, school paper and drama department. See if anyone there
knows anyone at Brillstein-Grey or another Hollywood agency.

- If you live in LA or New York, see if any agency people will be
speaking at your local branch of the Museum of TV and Radio. Go up and
talk to the agency people after the presentation. (Speakers at the New
York branch seem to be pretty accessible.)

- If you live in Los Angeles, go to The Groundlings performances or
performances at UnCaberet. Try to make friends with other audience members
and see if they have advice. If that approach is too scary, plunk down
money and enroll in Groundlings writing classes. Ask your instructor what
to do. In Chicago, try Second City or ComedySportz. In New York, try the
Upright Citizens Brigade and go to the free Monday night comedy shows at
Luna Lounge.

Louis CK was the head writer for Brillstein-Grey's Dana Carvey show, and
he performs at Luna all the time. There are also talent scouts in the
audience. I have not tried to do any serious networking there, but I
think you could do this pretty easily by buying people drinks.

"The Simpsons" has decided to stick with the work produced by their own
staff writers. As someone else mentioned, you have to be Conan O'Brien
before the producers will entertain a spec script from you. Even writers
and producers from the show's "glory days" will have trouble getting
consideration.

My advice would be to go ahead, write the script, and use it as a means
of getting an agent. That's your best way in, unless you have a person-
al contact of some kind.

Go for it and good luck.

Vincent, 90% of the shows will not accept spec scripts. Some will accept
scripts written for another shows as a sample of your talent, but run to
high ground if it is written for their show. It is a legal problem, so
they say, even if you sign a release and have your agent submit it.
