Hope I'm remembered out there. I think it has been close to a year since I
posted on this forum or checked it... I've just been busy busy busy....

My actual last (Los Angeles) project included a collaboration with one of
Michael Jackson's creative consultants that unfortunately didn't materialize
into anything. Now I'm back in Hawaii and running our own production
company called Canoe Girl Productions. We're a diversified prod company
like DISNEY excepts 1/100000000000000th of their size. Our endeavors
include film, videography, photography, talent, graphic/web design.

Just to let you know, I'm still writing. Haven't given up on the art...but
now I find myself more into developing, producing, and....the art of
investing. My production co is set to start p.p on our first feature next
summer with a budget of (beep!!) Our cinematographer has made the decision
to shoot it on super 16.

Anyway, check up on our companies website at http://www.canoegirl.com for
more info on us. And please...........I'm begging you, don't send us any
spec scripts. One feature is enough for our film dept to handle for the
next five years! We've been recieving loads of specs in the mail...clogging
our little P.O. Box!!!

Also...check out our newest talent Flo Jalin at http://www.jalin.net This
beauty is appearing on Baywatch in the upcoming season and already has
credits under Pacific Blue, Alantis, Hawaii 5-0, and Beverly Hills 90210.
This will be her first attempt at acting (with lines)...and.....she hopes to
move into this medium from modeling. Producers out there who are casting,
please feel free to contact us via the information on either website.

AND........if any of you are heading down to Hawaii, be sure to check us
out....

Best Wishes,

Steve Young

Hey, Steve, HI! Glad to see you seem to be making out OK there in
Hawaii. It's been exactly a year since we met. We're going to
Showbiz Expo today. (Sat.) All the best. I'll go check out your web
site.

Anybody else?

I've made the trek every year for a decade, and decided to give it a miss
this time. Seems like every year their is less and less of any real
interest to writers, and the few things that ARE worth looking at are the
same as last year, and the year before, etc, etc.

Anybody else have a take on the event?

Yeah. If you go you can subscribe to the Reporter
and Daily Variety for half price.

We exhibited last year, but decided not to this year, and save up to
do it again in 2000, our 20th anniversary.

The show was moved to the smaller of the two large exhibit halls, with
a few exhibitors moved across the hall to a small room. That room
actually had a lot of activity as it was also the location of the
special effects theater.

In general, the show was smaller this year, and far fewer give aways.

You're right that for writers there's little to nothing there that you
haven't seen before . . .this month's upgrade on all the writing
softwares - Syd Fields doing his thing at the Final Draft exhibit
(with whom he now has a deal). Etc. etc. etc. We go partly to see
old friends and schmooze for advertising from a few of them, and
because I like to play with the Panavision cameras, and trip over
cables.

I've spent many years working trade shows (doing comedy material) and
it's far nicer to go to one for four hours, then have dinner with some
friends, and not have to go back the next morning. The pay isn't
nearly as good, though.

We subscribe to Hollywood Reporter, and I picked up a Variety at the
expo. Interesting how the two trades have a different take on the
same event. Obviously, Variety has a more positive tone than the
Reporter since it is the Variety ShowBiz Expo. HR's headline on
Friday's small article on the expo was: "Tricky Times For ShowBiz
Expo" and went on to detail how the geneneral industry slump has
affected various parts of the marketplace. Variety began it's huge,
multi-page, multi-part coverage with the headline "Confab Numbers Are
Up Despite General U.S. Production Slump." They go on to quote
exhibitors about how upbeat they are, and the only mention of "confab
numbers" is "almost 500 exhibitors."

Yes, it has been a very long time since we first met at Jerrys. It's great
working on what I call the other side of the other side of the camera.
Finding the investments, cash, and talent, to push a project from script to
screen.

Please keep in touch with us as much as possible! We may be able to help
out Hollywood Scriptwriter in the future....somehow...
