What is the difference between a "Teaser" and a "Cold Open". I assume they're
different terms for the same thing, but I just want to make sure. Anyone with
a clear idea?

They are the same. Different shows usw different terms. (Just like
"credit tag" and "living end credit".)

Teaser:

A figure walks through the night, a
knife softly glinting in the moonlight.
The knife rises, plunged, and rises,
a spray of blood misting the air. The
soft crunch of footsteps through the
night, and the figure disappears.

Cold Opening:

Scully and Mulder stand over a woman's
body, examining the vicious stab wounds
in her chest.

That's the difference. :)

Same thing, different terminology. Depends on the show, the studio, the showrunner, the network...

Check produced scripts of the show you're writing, use what they use.
