A government sub-committee of Thailand planning the establishment of a new
town and civil administration in Chachoengsao province, has drafted plans for
one highway, four main roads and one minor road to connect the town with
Bangkok, the Eastern Seaboard and the southern part of the North-East,
according to Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Transport and Communications
Office of the Permanent Secretary.

A highway will connect the new town to the new highway No.36 from Bangkok to
Chon Buri, the Secretary said after the meeting of the sub-committee studying
transport and communications systems of the new town and a centre for civil
administration.

Highway No.36 was chosen because it is near Bangkok and near where the fourth
stage of the expressway, 5.8 kilometres from Bangna-Trad road to the Panthong
district, will be built.

The four main roads are: a road from the new town to Laem Chabang Industrial
Estate, connecting with highway No.36 and with the Eastern Seaboard (82
kilometres); a road to rayong and Mab Ta Phut (89 kilometres); a road to Sa
Kaeo and into Indochina (52 kilometres); and, a road from the new town to
Prachin Buri to Nakhon Ratchasima.

All four roads will have a width of 80 metres.

The proposed city will be based on roads and have no rail links with
Bankok nor an internal rail transit system? Geez. That doesn't make
much sense economically. Minimizing the roadway investments and focusing
it around rail transport will produce the bigest return. Let alone, it
will be a much nicer place to live and work.

A high speed train connection is also planned.
