Actually, I've been out there a couple of times, and the machines seem to be
working fine. However, their operation is so complicated that those people
who aren't comfortable with computers find it just too overwhelming.

Amen! It remember when ATMs were first presented to the public? No one was
going to use them because they were so hard to use? Today EVERYONE knows.
The problem is not so much that it's hard as it is new.

You bet. And even the current ticket machines baffle those who haven't
used them. Just go into a teh Powell Street station sometime and watch
the tourists fumble around with the machines.

Yup, it's a learning curve. I once took a big crowd of Texans and
Arizonans on the DC Metro, and as the token Northeasterner dazzled them
all with my ability to follow the clear instructions on a card vending
machine. Once they get that light rail line in Dallas, they'll wise up. :)

When they took the fourth amendment, I was quiet because I didn't deal drugs.
When they took the sixth amendment, I was quiet because I was innocent.
When they took the second amendment, I was quiet because I didn't own a gun.
Now they've taken the first amendment, and I can say nothing about it.

Still, hands down, the most popular form of public transit is the
elevator--probably followed by the escalatator....
Its because there is land-use planning and making the environmental around its
Pedestiran oriented.
