Thanks for the information and now I won't expect Illinois to change the
signs on January first.

but you also will find a lot of trucks in Iowa doing less than 65 where I
might be one of them.

Yes. Thanks for mentioning that too and I wonder if signs for that will go
up January 4th.

No Internet while driving and does not include GPS. So where does that put
Google Maps for Mobile where it uses the GPS and the Internet for the data?
It looks like it will be OK.

I haven't (although I don't drive in Illinois very often).

Semis like Schneider day cabs are governed to 60 mph so there will be semis
still going 60 even after they raise the speed limit to 65 in Illinois.
What will be interesting is if the cars in Illinois speed up. I remember
when they raised the speed limit on the Ohio Turnpike and even though cars
and truck had the exact same speed limit the cars still had to drive faster
and speed more time with the troopers.

"shortly after the first of the year?" That is bull because the speed limit
for trucks in Illinois changed at midnight not "shortly after the first of
the year" and all anybody had to do to verify that for themselves was ask a
State Patrol Officer at a truck stop just like I did. The Officer told me
the speed limit was 65 then he asked me if I drive a Truck. I said yes and
then he said they just haven't changed the signs yet.

I like the new speed limit a lot but it seems a few of the 4 wheelers
haven't figured out that they can't pass every truck like they used to.
I drove on the Ohio Turnpike the day they changed that speed limit years ago
and even though the signs showed 65 mph truck driver were afraid to go much
over 65 that but that doesn't seem to be the case in Illinois at least not
yet.
I used the CB radio to tell other truck drivers what the State Patrol told
me all the sudden I noticed the three trucks in front of me pulling away
from me. Guss the news traveled fast. :-)

That is a bummer because now I have to be stopped to post a message to a
newsgroup and then indicate a stop on my log book.

I guess they have to consider the cars that have the GPS built in .

Might be a good idea to wait for the signs given the nature of cops and
traffic court. Especially in IL where the finer points of the law are
ignored in traffic and adminstrative court. Some 'judges' will decide it
was speeding because of what the sign read, not what the law is.
Given the total lack of speed traps on I80 in Illinois yesterday it looked
like the cops didn't want to fight the law vs. signage argument in court.
The "urban districts" are the only areas I can see where there could be a
dispute on what the speed really is so it might be a good idea to wait for
the signs in just those areas.
Me? I'm hoping they have all the signs changed on the 4th so we don't have
to worry about the law vs. signage much longer.
Rocky
I was once in traffic court in front of a judge who essentially said
that everyone runs stops signs, so if you are here on a ticket for
failing to stop for a stop sign, he knows you did it. What a waste of
time.
Another dsyfuncational staple of the trucking message forums and news
groups. Whether the speed limits for truck has or has not increased,
whether it has or will shortly become effective, why not wait, like Brent
said, until the signs change.
I swear every time some truck driver hears a rumor that some state
somewhere, at some time has/will raise the limits I can just see one of our
fleet of functionalyl illiterate drivers ignoring the signs and driving like
mad because some guy said it was OK. It's not like you get much benefit
from guessing right about the state upping a speed limit. Your load needs
to go where it needs to go and that means you drive in the states when you
get there and that means you might as well obey the signs like an adult with
a desire not to have speeding tickets. There are so few real-life
circumstances where you can drive around some lower speedlimit jurisdiction
and not be delayed beyond what you would have experienced by just drivign
direct and observing the signs, I don't undrestand why this topic is such a
chestnut in the trucking forums.

On September 11th 2001, the government's (1970s) security procedures all
failed, and the only good news of the day came from self-reliant citizens
(on Flight 93) using their own wits and a willingness to act.
On December 25th 2009, the government's (post-9/11) security procedures all
failed, and the only good news came once again from alert individuals.
Mark Steyn
5 minutes of watching a stop sign will confirm the truth of the judge's
statement.
Scott, don't forget about so called rumors of Ohio raising the speed limit
on the turnpike that was supported by the Internet and then photos of signs
being changed the day the speed limit changed as in:
http://wookiee.home.att.net/OhioAt65/

"rumor?" Dude, it was fact before when Ohio raised the speed limit on the
turnpike so why shouldn't it be fact this time too.
Don't forget, I monitored the passing of the bill in Illinois for weeks
before it passed and you would have known that if you had been watching the
following thread:

Because IDIOTS like you make a BFD over it. Just like you did when you
claimed I was Richard in February of 2004.

The facts remain. The law is on the books and there are sites that have
informed us, being the truck drivers that drive in Illinois, that the signs
will change on the 4th weather permitting.
The signs don't make the law the law makes the law with the only
questionable areas where the speed limit will be raised being Interstates
that go around or through metropolitan areas.

Why would anyone in their right mind feel a need to do this in the
first place?? Are you so desperate for attention that you can't wait
until you go home to force your idiotic posts on the members of a
newsgroup?
I was wondering the same and am hoping he was either being sarcastic
or joking.

realitytrasher has been giving me shit ever since I answered a question
about flatbeds properly.
http://mtt.JusticeGoneWild.com
he is the one with a major problem since he was flatbed challenged and
taking the word of another flatbed challenged poster. It wouldn't be until
January 2008 that 3 other posters would inform rt that he was wrong.
Your best bet is to completely ignore the troll just like I have been doing
since January 10, 2009.
Rocky
What he is .... is a phoney. If you feel like digging thru 5 or so
years of his posts you'll see what I mean. He's not truck driver,
unless you mean the "Tonka" type.
I've been giving you shit since I discovered what a moron you really
are. Took about a half a dozen posts.

Rather be "flatbed challenged" than reality challenged any day.

Yes,by all means ignore that wannabe.
Now there are stretches of I55 where there are no "Speed Limit 55"
signs but there are stretches that still have the signs in place. It
is obvious some signs should come down but I'm not sure if they are
all supposed to come down.
Rocky
Harry K
Nope, he's bragging about texting while driving a big rig.
But don't worry, he doesn't have a CDL anyway.

Most of the old 55 mph signs on I80 have been taken down now. I hear
that there is even a Truck Speed Limit 65 mph sign somewhere on I80.
Maybe I'll see it tomorrow.
Rocky
The sign that says Trucks Over 4 Tons Speed Limit 65 is about 6 feet
away from milepost 123.
And even though 5 Illinois Counties kept the split speed limit at
least one of those Counties lowered the speed limit for cars to 55.
Now cars will see Speed Limit 55 on I55 at milepost 263 instead of
closer to downtown Chicago.
Rocky - knows
And nobody gives a shit about you foolish updates.
What is this 10-12 updates on the speed limit signs ?
hehehehehehe

JerryD(upstateNY)
Any bets on whether that will affect the speeds driven?
>Rocky - knows
> Rocky - knows next to nothing
Cops never paid attention to the signs nor has anyone else.
The rockford-ohare buses would run 70 and the cops never once saw them.
Good point. Even though about 20 miles of I55 has been lowered for cars
from 65 mph to 55 mph it doesn't seem to have phased any of the 4 wheelers.
.
>
I have been on I-90 (NW) a lot but I don't bother much looking at the
speed limits on it. I think that it might be as you go into Cook County,
though the only time anyone slows below 65-70 on I-90 before the Kennedy
is because of bad roads or congestion.
Only if there are heavy 'emphasis patrols'
Harry K
It took a while but the old 55 mph signs have been removed from I74 before
it crosses the Mississippi River and they have been removed I280 before it
crosses the Mississippi.
Until just recently as soon as you crossed I280 into Illinois you would
still see those old Speed limit 55 signs. Now those signs are gone and they
even put up a new Speed Limit 65 sign that you see as soon as you cross the
I280 bridge into Illinois.
The last place I know of where there were still Speed Limit 55 signs was
about 10 miles in Springfield, Illinois. They had the old 55 mph signs on
I55 from MP 99 to MP 88 but they could be removed by now too.
I guess I'm going to give Quinn my vote on February 2nd.
Rocky
I spoke to another driver and he makes it sound like the "Speed Limit 55"
signs have been removed in Springfield, Illinois too but he doesn't know
exactly where the speed limit changes on I55 around Chicago.
Rocky
On I55 the speed limit for trucks changes to 65 mph at exit 233.
On I57 north of I80 the speed limit for cars was lowered to 55 mph.
On I57 south of I80 I can't say what happens because I don't go very far
south of I80 on I57.
BTW I hear that the fine for trucks going over the limit it twice what it
used to be.
Plus, I have driven through Springfield in the last month and all the split
speed limit signs for trucks have been taken down. I'll bet they came down
as soon as the weather started getting better.
Rocky
> On I57 north of I80 the speed limit for cars was lowered to 55 mph.
It has been 55mph since the NMSL went into effect in the 1970s.
Then cars never drove close to that limit before January 1st.
Well duh. The NMSL was never widely obeyed. Although lately people are
driving a lot slower on chicago area interstates. Speeds where I was
damn near the slowest driver on the road now have me passing as if I
were doing 85mph a couple years back. I really haven't seen a greater
presence of ISP working to increase the state government's revenue to
pull them out of the hole so I am not sure as to why the sudden change.
