Dang right it was cold and it isn't a lot of fun driving a truck with
no heater when it is so cold because your toes freeze. At least my
defrost and bunk heater worked.

Today a wiper broke and oddly enough that is the only thing I carry a
spare for. Now I have 2 spare wipers. :-)

Update. My heating system was worked on again tonight and I wonder
how long this repair will hold up.

And about a dozen other people that have been dealing with my screwy
heater for over two years all hope it is fixed this time.

Once all I had was cold air out the floor vents and other times the
heat would stick on when I wanted AC. But most the time it would fail
it would take about 45 minutes to go from heat to defrost and that is
exactly what it did on New Year's Day.

They think it is/was the wiring and I get to be the one to test it
again.

Real Truck Drivers have proper foot gear.

Wow.

Real Truck Drivers carry lots of spares.

I even carry a full set of filters, and the correct wrenched for servicing
them.

They must be a pack of retards if they can't fix a heater system.

Or they are super smart because the could fix it to fail 100 miles or
3 hours later and then get repeat business.

> Ya think? A heater system is pretty basic...

This heater system has electric servos that can burn out and the
controls themselves can burn out. Not to mention it has a thermostat
that can burn out too.

-Especially- when it's still making heat.

Stunningly, that narrow down the possible causes significantly...

If this so called trucking company would hire that calibur of "driver" I'm
sure their "mechanics" are of similar abilities.

since you had a working defrost and bunk heat, that means the last mechanic
who worked on the truck forgot to open the damn valves.
but your bunk heater might be seperate from the engine heater.

There is a way to "calibrate" the heater and the calibration process
normally leaves it in defrost with full heat but the problem was/is the
calibrate itself would quit working and then all I would have is whatever
the controls were set at before the controls quit working.

To calibrate the heater control you turn the fan off and the other two knobs
all the way to the right. Turn the ignition on without starting the motor
and then press and hold both the recycle air button and the AC button for
about 10 seconds. Lights will flash off and on, the fan will come on etc
etc. That process last about 30 seconds and if your heater is/was working
properly it should still be working properly after the "calibration" but
mine got to the point where the "calibration" process didn't change
anything.

> but your bunk heater might be seperate from the engine heater.

Let me put it this way. Once when the bunk heater stopped working the way
they fixed the bunk heater was to replace the heater controls for the truck
and not do anything in the bunk.

My heater has been a problem for a long long time. It did OK today but I
still don't trust it.

Man were the roads slick today. They were so slick I parked it for over 2
hours and I don't normally pull over for bad weather I just slow down.
