Moments before a tractor-trailer crashed on Interstate 78 on Saturday
morning, its driver put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger, New
Jersey state police said Monday.
Andre Epps, 42, of Harrisburg, was alone and driving eastbound about
12:10 a.m. when his rig swerved off the road in Union Township and
overturned.
Troopers, who found Epps dead at the scene, initially thought he had
died of head injuries brought about by the crash. But they later
discovered a single shell casing and a handgun in the cab and other
weapon in another part of the truck, said a state police spokesman.
An autopsy determined Epps died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident remains under investigation.
