I wouldn't be so sure of that. You say you are in North FL; near
Jacksonville, I am assuming correctly?
If so, take a ride over the Dames Point Bridge headed northbound.
While crossing the bridge look to the left (to the north bank of the
St. Johns River and west of the bridge). See where they are doing all
that filling in? That's going to be the terminal for Mitsui OSK
Lines' (a *major* Asian shipping line) container operations in J-
ville. My understanding is that Hanjin Shipping is also planning to
set up operations in J-ville contingent on completion of widening of
the Panama Canal. They are talking over 1 million TEU's a year going
through that port per company. Believe me, there will be good jobs for
drivers there.

You think Florida truck driving jobs pay low? Willing to relocate. It't
that way up here too (IN). Probably worse.

I hauled containers for 6 months. The job sucks.
Most of the units are in pitiful condition and the trailers just as
bad.
The companies that own the equipment don't fix anything. They make the
driver fix it. At his expense.
Those jobs you mention would involve the driver mainly picking up at
the warehouse and taking the container to the port. Which means you
make around at least 6 trips a day. If that. A lot of your time is
spent waiting in line waiting to get unloaded. If you're paid by the
hour at a decent wage, then it's not so bad, but if you're paid by the
mile, you ain't gonna get nothin.
Most likely, they'll want you to own your own truck.
I am not sure is but Hanjin Shipping has to expand because of the Sav.
Ga. port problems, now "Mitsui OSK" might be a union job which I don't
think, I heard that land was goint to be used for an expansion of the
cruse ship lines which don't pay that well, I have a friend that works
on one of the ships he said he don't even get $100.00 per day "while
at sea", see merchant marines base pay is about $150.00 per day see
Florida is a non-union prefered state plain and simple the 2 best port
jobs here are Sealand and Crowley Sealand sub's out there frieght,
Crowley has Co. drivers and they make $75K a year, you have to know
someone or work yourself up from the shop or something I used to go be
there shop once a week till I started runing OTR, that's a local job
anyways. I used to drive for a Co. in WI., I was in IN all the time
there is pleny of driving jobs up there alot are farm related jobs,
but up aroung Gary are some good paying driving jobs some union, I did
not target IN last year but CA, OR, WA, AZ, all are paying about $0.36
per mile tha's with 10 + years exp. and a REAL clean MVR, thanks for
the response I will shoot them a resume @ Mitsui OSK.
