Feature on US 12 in Southwest Michigan

Attn. Tom Ketchum, Ron Wilbanks, Chris Bessert:

On the US 12 expressway/freeway bypass of Niles, Michigan, just east of
the Business US 12/M-51 (old US 31/33) interchange, there is a short
but wide split median. It doesn't appear to have been included because
of topography. There wasn't a highway planned to connect here, was
there? (Maybe the never-built South Bend-to-Kalamazoo I-194?)
