How does that work if I want to use one of them with my
Interrail-pass? Can I use these trains without a supplement or do they
have special supplements for pass-holders?
Groeten, Siebrand
That's the internal German system. ICE supplements ("Aufpreis") still
exist for TCV tickets and I presume are also required for Interrail.

So you still need ICE supplements. Not sure about IC/EC supplements
though. They still exist for FIP coupons for example, but not for TCV
tickets.

Always used to be so easy with FIP free passes - you would buy 1 IC/EC
"Zuschlag" ticket (out of the machine) for any journey regardless of the
number of changes (the same as ordinary tickets). For ICE you just had to
buy 2 IC/EC "Zuschlag" tickets. I wonder if the same arrangements still
exist? Presumably with the new fares structure it's no longer possible to
buy the IC/EC "Zuschlag" out of the machine?

According to my knowledge: yes. And there's also a new "ICE-Sperrliste"
(list of forbidden ICEs).

You're still supposed to be able te get them out of the machine,
according to my info. I'll check the coming weekend (if I don't forget
it).

Is the Sperrliste only meant for FIP holders, or also for holders of passes
(Interrail, etc).

Only for FIP holders, restrictions being on busy trains, normally over
the weekend and not always for the full journey. We have a list in the UK
of trains restricted to rail staff, though it's only for those employed
here.
Inter Rail (& all the other passes) would be valid on all ICE services on
payment of the usual supplement.
Coincidence or what but a contact of mine sent me the list. I won't
publish it here as it only affects rail staff, I'll send the list (MS
Word file) to anyone who wants it (email me off the newsgroup please).
A summary of supplements for FIP free coupon holders on DB IC/ICE
services is as follows:
The following supplements ('DB Mitarbeiter Aufpreis') are payable by
staff holding International Coupon Tickets:
IC: €3.60 (1st and 2nd class)
ICE: €7.20 (1st and 2nd class)
IC Sprinter €15.00* (1st class)
€10.00** (2nd class)
* - includes compulsory reservation, snack and non-alcoholic drinks
** - includes compulsory reservation
I checked and you can, from the touch screen machines.
