Hello,

In preparation for an upcoming trip to Australia (Cairns, Brisbane,
Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne) I am looking for information about
museums (train and tram) and the historical and tourist railways lines
in these regions.

What are the sites not to be missed?

Thank you in advance for any info you can give me.

Philippe VC

Hi - you need to research the Gulflander from Normanton to Croydon in
Northern Queenstown. Also there may be a mixed goods / passenger train south
from Toowoomba. See:

Good luck. CJB

In Queensland - google for Cairns to Kuranda train, apart from the gulf
lander. Also look at Queensland Rail Sunlander - the passenger train loco
hauled - not the Tilt Train (uncomfotable and boring).

In NSW look for the Rail Transport Museum at Thirlmere and then CountryLink -
the Xplorer to Broken Hill, Griffith or Canberra

Victoria railway museum at Newport Workshops and google "Puffing Billy" for
2ft steam train through the hills outside Melbourne

South Australia - the Port Dock Railway Museum and the National Railway
Museum at Port Adelaide Then google' Pichi Richi Railway'

( Itried pasting the URL for all the above but no luck).

Contact me by email if you want any further info
