The Lehigh Line is Conrail's Ex-Lehigh Valley line. It runs from Oak
Island Yard in Newark, New Jersey to Waverly,N.Y. The line orignaly went
to Buffalo, but Conrail abandoned that portion. The portion of the line
that gets used the most is the Oak Island-Allentown Section. In
Manville,N.J. the Ex-Rdg line to Philly breaks off. Bettwen Oak Island and
Allentown there are about 30 trains a day, with more on the section from
Oak Island to Manville. There are more qualifyied people to tell you of
the lines history as I know mainly of present operations. The Lehigh Line
also has one of the last operating towers on Conrail. NK tower is located
in Newark and controls the track from CP-Valley, the mouth of Oak Island
to CP-Aldene. This is a distance of about 7 miles. Also in that area run
New Jersey Transit commuter trains from Newark to Raritan. NK has a
bright future right now as does most of the Lehigh Line. NOTE: My quote
of the Lehigh Dispatcher does NOT represent the normal congestion on the
Lehigh Line, although it gets close somedays.

I thought I would add that 'your waiting' should be 'you're waiting' while
we're all concentrating on the spelling.

Maybe 30 trains a day, Oak Island-Manville on a good day! The Lehigh Line
on Mondays-Wednesdays can be a quiet place, especially in the middle of
the day. Traffic is usally heaviest at night and in the early morning.
CR's decision to lock D&H out of the stack train business to NYC by not
lowering (or raising) the Musconetcong Tunnel has taken trains off the
western end of the Lehigh Line and put them onto the Trenton Line (Manville
to West Trenton).

This is an interesting line with a great variety of trains, especially
with the Trenton Line now cleared for stacks. But if you come to watch
from say 10am to 4pm you could be in for a big disappointment!

PS. I live about 2 miles from the Musconetcong Tunnel and work about
1 mile from the New Market Detector...
