There are, I think, 3 BL20-2s in existence. They're numbered EMD 120-122.
EMD is and has been the sole owner. No railroads bought into the idea of
the BL20-2 apparently. Right now they're in the EMD lease fleet. I
think they were last working on UP.
They were built buy EMD marketed toward the rebuild market to compete
with the likes of VMV, MK, etc.
The 3 were built on the frames and with the trucks from GP7s or GP9s.
Hmmm... anybody know what prime mover they have?
At any rate, it is supposed to be around 2000 hp, thus the "20" in the
designation. Apparently they're also up to Dash 2 electrical specs.
As you can tell from seeing them, they have completely new hoods.
They're virtually new locomotives.
[I'm thinking about kitbashing(hell, it's almost a scratch build) one in
HO scale. ]

I may have some info on them in one of my books which are in a box in the
back room. If I can get back there I'll get the information for you.
I always liked odd motive power that is why I was going to model my own
railroad
short line that bought odd type locos. second hand from the bigger
railroads.

No no no. :)
A BL20-2 is a nineties creation. (or late eighties... can't remember).
The BL20-2 looks like what a GP9 would look like if it were manufactured
now... new hood and all... except it has the old trucks and frame. Other
than that, it is a 90s GP9 (with 2000hp).
Kitbashing one is going to be quite involved (in HO). I'll need a lot of
help from Cannon and some from Athearn because the hood isn't a cut and
paste of Athearn hoods.
I'll post a picture of one on my website if I ever get around to making a
Photo CD or scanning some slides.
