the marine engineer on ships

hi!
i was just wondering if in the merchant navy, are the 3rd, 4th and 5th
engineer still in use??
heard that most vessels these days just go with chief, 2nd and 3rd.

This is true. As far as I am concerned, most vessels indeed go with chief,
2nd and 3rd engineers.

in singapore shipping lines, its like chief, 2nd, 3rd. sometimes, there
may be a 5th or cade eng attached.

The QE2 has a "Staff Chief Engineer" who is apparently second to the CE.

Staff Chiefs sail on many cruise liners,not only QE2
