Channel ferry doors 'left open'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/8137618.stm

TransEuropa operates the ferry between Ostend and Ramsgate
Watertight doors on a cross-Channel ferry were regularly left open
while it was at sea, a report has found.

The UK's Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) published its
findings after an engine-room fitter was hurt on the passenger ferry
Eurovoyager.

The fitter was found trapped in a hydraulically-operated steel
watertight door in a machinery space as the vessel sailed for
Ramsgate, Kent, in November.

The operator TransEuropa Shipping Lines said it would not be
commenting.

Readers may remember the tragic sinking of the Herald Enterprise - a
similar cross-channel ferry - that sank due to the bow doors not being
closed before setting sail.

It appears that nothing has been learnt.
