Bzzzt..
Fourty million early retirees times 1 million dollars per is 40
TRILLION dollars. (Your cost estimate is off by serveral orders of
magnitude. )
I.E.. ~16 times the current federal budget, ~3.5 times larger than
annual GDP..

Unfortunately, 40 million people at a million each is 40 TRILLION bucks.
But the message is correct even if the arithmetic is ridiculous.
Contrast this with the imbeciles that want to boost the retirement age in
order to "save" Social Security. The stooooooooooooopidity of the
rightarded is ever amazing. Their solution to the wage funded system is
to kick the crap out of wages by keeping the coots in the work force
longer still.
At present you can retire at age 62. I did and with an owned home and VA
medical I am fine. I could probably have retired even sooner if they had
allowed me to adjust the annuity (as they did) and let me do it at 60.
That is how it works. If you retire earlier then you get less per
month. Some of the more greedy work till age 70. They compete with the
people that NEED the jobs and then draw a bigger check after they retire.
That ONLY makes sense to a Republican. Normal, well adjusted people,
look at it differently. The _BIG_ problem for most people is health care.
The employment situation is much improved by early retirements.

Geeez, yes.
Sorry about the subject line number.
I need a nap.
That's better.
Yupp 50 Trillion.
About 2 times the national debt right now.
Then I looked into the VA system and I see that the VA provides total
care to a little more than 5 million for 40 billion a year. That's 8
thousand a year for _EVERYTHING_. Drugs, office visits, knee
replacements, chemo and everything else. And there are LOT of 85 year
old vets and _NO_ kid vets. Most of the vets without service connected
disabilities that are young are not enrolled in VA care as they have
regular health insurance through their employers and their income is too
high to qualify for VA care. For those not suffering from disabilities
it is mostly us retired types and the poor (the coots).
So why not (as a public option) allow the 50 year old people to _BUY_
into the VA system while using some of the middle class subsidy (proposed
insurance subsidies) to further subsidize that system? Answer: Because
the Republican insurance company lovers and the AMA would poop in their
pants, that's why.
I've also been wondering why we can't sign on to the Canadian health
system with all this NAFTA crap being so wonderful and all. Why not let
the Canadians _compete_ in our system too? They seem to be doing a
pretty job according to their people.
I may be out of my mind, but I am also "outside the supposed box".
