I do not read this newsgroup regularly, so please respond
by email to joa...@sco.com:

How do you determine whether it's possible/worthwhile
to deduct medical expenses? I do not itemize -- but
this year, my out-of-pocket medical expenses are going
to be considerable. Is there a way I can figure out
now if I should go ahead and have more work done, even
though I'm max'd out on insurance, because it would mean
I could deduct the expenses?

thanks,
Please email: joa...@sco.com with any help!

Medical expenses are generally deductible if they exceed 7.5% of your
income. If you can predict what your income will be, you can get some
idea if your medical expenses will be deductible. This will only be a
guideline; only be filling out the return will you know for sure what's
deductible and what's not
