I have a retail shrimp store.

I buy shrimp directly from the boat.

I read the 1099-Misc instructions as saying I need to

give a 1099 to the boat owner, his accountant disagrees.

What do you say?

Also I put the dollar amount in box 5, I think that might

be the wrong box, I think that is for when the capt" is treating

deckhands as independent contractors.

Any lead on the proper box for this?

Thanks, Mikek

His accountant is right. You issue a 1099-MISC to someone
that you pay for *services*, not for product.

Box 5 is for payments by the boat owner to the crew.

There is no proper box because you shouldn't be issuing the
1099-MISC at all.
