I have a home office and I am trying to figure out what to
use as the home cost to figure depreciation. I was able to
figure out the land value from the real estate tax bill, but
how do I figure the cost of the house when part of it is
rental property.

My guess is to split the building cost based on square
footage and enter in the amount for the part I live in.

How do I figure sq. footage for home office? I live on the
first floor, I have a rental property on the second floor.
Do I count the basement (only accessable to me) square
footage as well as the first floor sqare footage for the
total square footage?

At present my home office is on the first floor. Next year I
plan on expanding into the basement.

Thanks to all who reply and to those who thought about replying.:)

It's the part that's not already being depreciated on your
rental schedule. ;)
