Hi,
My wife's Serbian, and we are both US citizens. We are contemplating buying a property in Belgrade, that we might wish to use personally and/or rent out, and eventually potentially live there in retirement.
I've been looking at
https://taxsummaries.pwc.com/serbia/individual/significant-developments
for answers so far.
I would like to ask the following questions:
1. Does owning a property in Serbia qualify you as a tax resident automatically. I don't think so, but would like to confirm. I'm not clear on the first clause listed here, because it does not require a minimum number of days spent in Serbia per year:

2. Is Serbia is a country where as a US expat, I would be eligible to receive Social Security payments? I believe so, per
https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10137.pdf, but again looking for confirmation.
3. Are US social security payments made to my wife and I, as Serbian tax residents, subject to income tax in Serbia as world-wide income? I think the answer is yes here, but would like confirmation.
4. If SS payments are taxed in Serbia, could I get credit against US federal and state taxes on the same?
5. If we resided in Serbia each year for less than the 183 days required to be a resident and considered ourselves US residents, could we then just be liable only for US taxes?
6. What if you spent 4 months in 3 different countries each year? Where would you be considered a resident? Is it wherever you choose to declare yourself to be a resident?
Regards,
Ashwin
