I have an adult child who is dependent on me due to a disabiliy that we do not believe is permanent or total. Can I claim her as a dependent?

Permanently and totally disabled. A person is permanently and
totally disabled if, at any time in 2023, the person can't engage
in any substantial gainful activity because of a physical or
mental condition and a doctor has determined that this condition
has lasted or can be expected to last continuously for at least
a year or can be expected to lead to death.

If the condition for being permanently and totally disabled is met --
lasting continuously for at least a year -- then get the prognosis in
writing from her doctor and save it with your tax records.

Other conditions of dependency must be met as well. Start reading on
page 17 and follow the steps.

Who Qualifies as Your Dependent
Dependents, Qualifying Child for Child Tax
Credit, and Credit for Other Dependents

Best wishes on her speedy recovery, even if it means she doesn't meet
the definition in tax law.
