I filed taxes earlier in the year, owing around $60, which I paid with the filing. Then I got a Notice 54 with a check for $14, stating I would "be receiving a notice in a few days that explains why the check is different..."..."Please do not call us until you receive the notice."

It has been about 6 weeks now, and no "notice" has appeared. I know: this is small beans, but it is annoying. N.b.: No math errors noted on my straightforward (paper) return (copied from a spreadsheet I keep, which does the math, obviously).

Should I do anything but wait?

Just take the money and don't worry about it.

If it's so annoying that you're willing to spend some time
on hold, you can call the IRS at 800-829-1040 and ask them
to resend the notice or to tell you why then sent you the
$14.
