I know nothing about CA W-2s, but box 14 stuff cannot be
deducted.

Worse, in some cases box 14 stuff could be added back into
income for EIC.

Not many state taxes can be deducted on a personal return
anyway: Personal property taxes (maybe), real estate taxes
and state or local income income taxes is pretty much it.

Sched A instructions for "State and Local Income Taxes" has:

"Mandatory contributions you made to the CA, NJ, NY
nonoccupational Disability Benefit Fund" as being
deductable. Is this a different beast?

Also, for "Other Taxes", it states:

"If you had any deductable tax not listed. . . " without
mentioning anything about what taxes are deductable. Where
do you find out which? I know sales tax is specifically
excluded, but. . .

Employers often show CA State Disability Insurance
deducted from employees in box 14. CASDI is deductible
on Schedule A as a state income tax.

My employer's payroll service (ProBusiness) always puts the
CA-SDI amount in box 14, and that's definitely deductible.
In fact, that's where TurboTax expects it to be.
