"When one hears that the majority, not the constitution,
should define civil rights, one should feel a shiver of fear.
Constitutionally guaranteed rights protect gun owners,
property owners, people of different races and
many separate religions, to name a small number.
I will work to protect the rights of all,
not just some.

Blush..ooops!
No state has an inherent right to survive through conscript troops
and, in the long run, no state ever has. Roman matrons used to say to
their sons: "Come back with your shield, or on it." Later on, this
custom declined. So did Rome.
Any government will work if authority and responsibility are equal
and coordinate. This does not insure "good" government; it simply
insures that it will work. But such governments are rare — most people
want to run things but want no part of the blame.
The moral difference between a soldier and a civilian is that the
soldier accepts personal responsibility for the safety of the body
politic of which he is a member. The civilian does not.
Citizenship is an attitude, a state of mind, an emotional conviction
that the whole is greater than the part...and that the part should be
humbly proud to sacrifice itself that the body may live.
The truth of a proposition has nothing to do with its credibility.
And vice versa.
Anyone who cannot cope with mathematics is not fully human. At best
he is a tolerable subhuman who has learned to wear shoes, bathe, and not
make messes in the house.
Government research is a contradiction in terms.
Animals can be driven crazy by placing too many in too small a pen.
Homo sapiens is the only animal that voluntarily does this to himself.
(as a mea culpa makeup..... Quotes from Mark Twain)
I do not like work even when someone else does it.
I did not attend his funeral, but I wrote a nice letter saying I
approved of it.
When I think of the number of disagreeable people that I know who have
gone to a better world, I am sure hell won't be so bad at all.
I admire the serene assurance of those who have religious faith. It is
wonderful to observe the calm confidence of a Christian with four aces.
Soap and education are not as sudden as a massacre but they are more
deadly in the long run.
Suppose you were an idiot...And suppose you were a member of
Congress...But I repeat myself.
"Aren't cats Libertarian? They just want to be left alone.
I think our dog is a Democrat, as he is always looking for a handout"

Heh, heh, I'm pretty sure my dog is a liberal - he has no balls.
