Ok, I know that dead animals bloat especially in the sun. Now if you
asked me why, I dont have a clue. But "explode"? Is this guy pulling
my leg, or can this really happen? If it can happen, please define
"explode". I'm sure they dont go off like a stick of dynamite, which
is what "explode" means to me. What happens (if this is true)?
Take a balloon and fill it with milk and a little vinegar. Put it
out in the sun for a while. It may or may not explode-- but if you
go to pick it up and it hits something sharp-- or if it is resting on
some sharp gravel-- it could explode.
Same thing with rotting meat-- cows, woodchucks, humans. After a few
days in the sun a carcass becomes a balloon full of gas, slime, and
nasty bits. *Something* has to give. Hopefully some carrion eater
will puncture the skin before it gets too 'explosive' -- Worst case,
the rendering guys get there & it blows up all over them as they try
to pick it up. Probably a good show for that the 'Dirty Jobs' TV
show.

Bloated animals can explode. I forget which channel I saw this on it
might have been the History Channel or Animal Planet, not sure. But they
documented a whale exploding in the center of a major city in the far
east, I think it was Korea in an open air Market area as it was being
hauled across town to a University for dissection. The truck hit a bump
and there was a soft wet explosion and tons of whale goo all over
everything. It was like the worst carnage scene from a splatter horror
flick ever filmed x 10000. Literally thousands of pounds of fetid blood
and organs splattered everywhere.
AWESOME!!!
Enjoy!
Am I the only one to get a warning from my anti-virus app when
opening that link?

Here's youtube video of it

Me too. I'm running AVAST.
Ditto.
Now I guess the question becomes: "Is Avast throwing a false
positive or are other virus spotting apps missing something?"

Or, for some of us, it's a moot point :)

Wow. Messy little beast, isn't it? :)

Well, a few years back I got a link to a story of how to place explosives to
break up the carcuses of large animals (especially horses) that go down in
wildnerness areas. They can't be taken out but most of the preditors are
small.
The explosives break up the animal into pieces small enough to be taken away
from smaller critters.
I don't know why anyone would do that in a 'wilderness' area. Birds, foxes
and all sorts of small beasts can break down a large carcase in a reasonably
short time. And if there are wild pigs around, then the deed would be done
very quickly.
The way wild pigs are controlled at our other farm is to bait a pig trap
(which looks like a big cage with a one way gate) with a kangaroo carcase.
The pigs come in to feed and then die very quickly without water and then
more pigs arrive to feed on those carcases. The record was 27 pigs in the
one trap.

I think it is for less than 'wilderness' areas where the sight of a
rotting horse would be offensive to other hikers-- and large pieces
are more likely to draw bears and big cats. There are rangers who
will blow up the carcass if packing it out is impractical.
